Victoria m. Targblor Mastery Journal Full Sail University Media Design, MFA

ABOUT ME: Hello, my name is Victoria "Mitzy" Targblor and I am an accomplished Author, Illustrator, and Art Educator. My background entails graduating from Spelman College, Mercer University, Sessions College for Professional Design. I am also a soon-to-be graduate of Full Sail University's MFA Media Design program. I am the Founder of National Write Your Story Day and A Mother of Colour (a community that empowers minority mothers). For more information support and share the following platforms: WebsiteLinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram

INTENTIONAL STATEMENT: In August of 2023, I enrolled in the MFA program for Media Design within Full Sail University. Currently, I work as a Visual Art Educator for both elementary and secondary school. However, I my long-term intentions throughout my MFA journey include cultivating my graphic design skills and building a supportive network in order to launch a successful career as either a Designer or a Design Educator within a university. In my spare time, I enjoy reading spiritual books like Teresa of Avila's Interior Castle and John Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress, and Florence Scovel Shinn's The Game of Life and How to Play It. I also enjoy sitting by the lake or ocean and soaking up the sunshine. Additionally, I have a publication that I also manage A Mother of Colour Magazine which I devote a great deal of time and attention to. I would say that the community and publication is my personal "labor of love." I originally sought out this program because I wanted to expand my career options so that I could either teach at the collegiate level or to work efficiently in a design role. I also wanted to enter a program that was flexible and realistic with my busy work schedule being that I am a busy mom and a full-time Educator. Skills that I aspire to cultivate include webpage design, Adobe Illustration/Photoshop, as well as other software that may be beneficial when developing for a company or school. I also would like to connect with companies that work closely with parenting brands and/or minority-based communities being that I am passionate about helping minority mothers thrive in the world. It is my hope that upon completion of my degree that I will be able to assist with the education of designs or to create designs that help bring the vision of an organization to life. I consider myself to be a hard-working, dedicated, and caring individual who puts extraordinary effort and care into all that I do.

MDM570-O Week One

WEEK ONE DESIGN PROJECT: This week comprised of creating audio descriptions for previous advertisements associated with three holidays (Earth Day, Kwanzaa, and Juneteenth).

Day #1: Earth Day- The method behind creating this work is that I envisioned sounds that were both natural because I wanted to express nature associated with that particular day and also sounds that were relaxing and calm. Both of those qualities also associate with being in a natural environment. Thus, I chose ambient and light guitar music to create the relaxing effect and windchimes to implement the light and airy feeling that was associated with the calmness of nature. As this work relates to concepts discussed this week, the idea of brand concept is present throughout this creation being that there is unity from expression of sounds that are light/airy and calming. The sounds were all diegetic meaning they were only sounds that came from the environment of the video itself. An advantage of this type of sound is that it allows consumers to fully be in the world of the advertisement. In contrast, to non-diegetic sounds that do not come from the video scene.
Day #2: Kwanzaa- The story behind this work is that I chose to add a doorbell ringing to create the effect of people joining a party. I also added the sound of winter in the background which gave the effect of cooking food. Lastly, I added African drums to reflect the cultural heritage that is connected to African traditions and values. The day overall symbolizes togetherness and unity. Thus, I sought to create a scene that reflected those concepts of importance. Evaluating the concepts this week, one could infer that there is an emotion of gathering from the upbeat drums and door bell. It possesses all diegetic sounds which help viewers enter the world of the party as if they are a guest. It also gives viewers a sense of remembrance by the constant beating of the drum throughout the work. Thus, forming familiarity and audible branding. If non-diegetic sounds were implemented it would be best if it were the voice of someone like a friend navigating viewers through the party.
Day #3: Juneteenth- I chose to submit two forms of this work. Reason being, we were told not to implement voice, but I felt as though voice really complimented the overall purpose of the day itself. Implementing a hopeful protesting voice helped in one example being that it gave clarity to the focus of the message surrounding cultural pride and overcoming obstacles. However, I removed the voice for the intended work and replaced it with the sounds of a busy city and church bells which created a scene of people marching in the streets for injustice. Therefore, it emitted a similar response that I wanted to evoke. Connecting to concepts learned throughout this week, the work appears to have diegetic sounds that help consumers experience the spirit that surrounds that day i.e., (focus on celebration of heritage and racial equality). The drum also expresses a repetition that makes the work memorable and unique. It is as if the drum acts as a heartbeat that is a foundation of the work as well.

MDM570-O Week Two

WEEK TWO DESIGN PROJECT: This week comprised of creating gif media for previous advertisements associated with three holidays (Earth Day, Kwanzaa, and Juneteenth). The process of completing each work was that I searched for royalty free images of scenes that connected with the desired holiday. Then, I utilized Adobe Photoshop to import videos. The weekly concepts assisted in this process by attempting to create motion that possessed rhythm and pacing that came across as natural to its environments and subjects.

MDM570-O Week Three

WEEK THREE DESIGN PROJECT: The process behind completing this work is that I first utilized Adobe Illustrator in order to create vector images that I could adjust into Adobe After Effects. For the Earth Day event I chose to make a simple logo of a leaf with a ripple effect transition to compliment the emphasis of nature. For the Kwanzaa work I created the seven candles within the kinara. I also incorporated a striking transition for the name of the event that also complimented the bold sound of the door bell ringing. Lastly, I chose to create the logo of a chain breaking and the colors of African heritage. I also utilized the block building effect for transitioning within the Juneteenth logo to address the aspect of transformative collaboration. Afterwards, I utilized the application to add audio that was previously created in Adobe Audible within the previous weeks. Lastly, I adjusted the audio so that the sound complimented the images and transitions presented.
