Warm spirits with homemade hot chocolate Maya hruskar '23

As we’re approaching a quarantined winter, myself and many others have embraced the holidays with special commitment. Even when we aren’t able to see our friends or loved ones, the holiday spirit always provides a sense of comfort and familiarity. This hot chocolate epitomizes that holiday magic, and just one delicious mug of it will make you feel completely at ease, even amid the craziness of the world.

Ingredients:

  • two cups of any kind of milk (I used oat milk)
  • two tablespoons of white sugar
  • two tablespoons of brown sugar
  • two tablespoons of cocoa powder
  • one half cup of chocolate chips (semi-sweet or dark work best)
  • one teaspoon of vanilla
Begin by pouring the milk into a small saucepan and bringing it to a simmer on medium heat.
Stir continuously as it gets hotter and be careful not to burn the milk.

Add the white sugar, brown sugar and cocoa powder to the milk and whisk until everything is smooth and dissolved.

Ensure that there are no clumps before moving on, as this will make it more difficult to reach a smooth consistency for the final product.

The mixture should be light brown, but it will darken significantly after the chocolate chips are added.

Lastly, add the chocolate chips and vanilla. Whisk until everything is homogeneous and there are no discernable chunks of chocolate. This may take some time, but if the milk is kept hot the chocolate should dissolve more easily.

Pour some of the hot chocolate out into your favorite mug, and enjoy your decadent beverage!
