Term 1, week 4

Class reader: The Stolen Spear
We finished our class reader, Stone Age boy. The class completed a book review of this text. A lot of the children really enjoyed this book. This is clear from their reviews that can be seen on Seesaw. We also began to look at our new class reader, The Stolen Spear. Firstly, we began by looking at the blurb and front cover, and making predictions. We have now read the first chapter and are excited to finish continue the book!
PE: Sport fundamentals
In PE this week, the class have been focusing on sport fundamentals. The children were able to improve their core skills that are used across a number of sports, including dodging and sprinting.
English: Fables
The class have been continuing their work on fables. We are now in the process of writing our own fables. This started by looking at different pairings of animals to see what would work well when creating a story. The children have now created their own plan and will be ready to create the comic strip of the fable next week.
Science: Rocks

This week we started our science topic, rocks. We began by completing a pre-assessment and looking at our knowledge organiser.

After this, we went into the playground to take photos of different rocks that we could see.

We then use these photos to complete our activity of describing the qualities of the different rocks. We annotated the photos we took on a seesaw activity.

At the end of the activity, the children added the enquiry skill. For this lesson it was observation.

We finished off the lesson by watching a video all about the formation of rocks. There are three different types of rocks; igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary. This is a good starting point for continuing our learning in the topic.
