Small pieces of bedrock that have been weathered - boulders, gravel, rocks, sand, dirt, dust.
WEATHERING
The breaking up of rocks by wind, water, ice or plants.
EROSION
The moving of sediment from one place to another by wind, water, ice or animals/people.
DEPOSITION
Sediment being placed in a new location after erosion
COMPACTION
Sediments are pressed together over time by gravity
LITHIFICATION
Sediments are bound together with minerals and turn from loose sediment into stone. Also called cementation.
