Nasinu Village My Fiji....My Home

Pacific Ocean

Nasinu Village is located in the Eastern part of main Island, Viti Levu. It is in the border of Tailevu and Ra Province. One side of the village is the beautiful Pacific Ocean and the other side is vast mountainous range. Nasinu is just sitting on the foot of one of the highest peak in Fiji, Tova Peak. It's the most challenging hike in Fiji. Visit the Link for more Info.

View from Tova Peak

This tiny Village only contains 18 houses and has estimate population of around 94. Two hours drive from main city and about 45 minutes from neibouring town. It's closest village is Silana, which is the main spot for GVI camp. Volunteers from USA and European countries come each year.

Captured this while on my fishing trip with the villagers. Infront is the Tova peak and just beneath is Nasinu Village. Life in the Village is pretty must simple. Abundance of seafood and also the wild crops from the mounts such as Yams, Ota, Tavioka, Cocoa and many more.

Parrot Fish

These are some of the best seafoods you will find all year around. And from the net it goes straight in the pot. When usually cooked with coconut milk, boiled or fried it's served with root crops or rice. It's super freash and easily accessible plus cheap for the villagers, of course in city these can cost our leg.

WIld Cocoa

Apart from seafood there is also wide variety of fruits that grow in wild. Such as these cocoa. They are not grown and there's about hundreds of trees surrounding the village. Guava, Ambarella, Star Apple, Papaya are also found in the wild.

Wild Cocoa

An average household makes $10 -$20 per day. Selling of catch from the sea or surplus from the garden are common income for the villages. Weaving is also a good business for the ladies. Making and selling yummy Ice-Blocks in hot sunny days is just an easy money. However, villages are blessed with Pine trees and there is a high demand for Pine Timber. When ever logging is carried out it brings Job and Money.

Yummy Ice-Blocks on a Hot Sunny day. Want one?

What could be more fun then heading out to the sea for a dive on a very hot day? Or just to play rugby on the beach when the tide is low!! And yes riding on the bamboo raft and seeing colorful fish swimming underneath it. And that awesome wrist watch!!

Fun at the sea
Sunset

Lastly. Ending the day with that beautiful sunset and the sound of the waves rushing back to shore. As night approaches the soft sound from the church choir, and of course the grog session. The hospitality from the villagers is unmatched. Even though the life is simple but in simplicity they find happiness.
