My explorer is Marco Polo. He was born in Venice, Italy on 1254.

Marco Polo's mother died when he was young. His father was a merchant and was in China when Marco was born.

Marco met his father when he was 15 and left Venice with his father at age 17 go to China. He traveled on the Silk Road and met Kublai Khan (Emperor).Marco Polo traveled with his father in China for 17 yrs.

Marco was fascinated by his father's stories about China. He wanted to join his father when he went to China. While Marco was in China he traveled on the Silk Road and met Emperor Kublai Khan.

While Marco Polo was in China, he learned Manderin Chinese and enspired many Europeans to settle in China . He also kept a journal with him at all time so he could write about his adventures. When he came back to Venice, he joined the Navy.
