The Shirt
Since 1990, The Shirt has unified the student body, alumni and fans each football season. With a mission of enhancing student life at Notre Dame, the proceeds from sales benefit students, student clubs and organizations through The Shirt Charity Fund and the Student Experience Fund, ensuring that all students have access to the full Notre Dame experience.
During its 33 years of operations, more than 3 million shirts have been sold, raising millions of dollars for students and making it not only an article of clothing, but also a wearable expression of support for the Notre Dame student body. The Shirt is believed to be the single highest selling annual piece of college athletic apparel in the nation. More than 160,000 units are sold annually.
Within Notre Dame Stadium, The Shirt can be seen as a common thread uniting not only the students, but all fans in one solid color. A sea of same-colored Shirts gives the opposing team a "twelfth man" to fear.
The Shirt 2022 is now available on the Hammes Notre Dame Bookstore website.

Did you know?
Giving is contagious. People mimic the behavior of others, so it makes sense that it would apply to giving as well. It is the concept of the hit film “Pay It Forward” where one person starts an entire movement by helping someone they don’t even know. If one person sees someone else donate, they are enticed, or may just feel obliged, to follow suit.
A 2010 study found that when a participant gave money away, the recipients of that money were also then more likely to give themselves. This is substantiated by the 93 dollar club movement that spread in 2009. A woman was at a grocery store checkout line when she noticed she had lost her wallet. In a random act of kindness; a stranger offered to pay her $207 grocery bill. When the woman who had lost her wallet went to pay the stranger back, she wrote a $300 dollar check as a thank you - suggesting she use the extra $93 to get a massage. The stranger posted the story on Facebook asking what she should do with her extra $93 dollars, her friends suggested she donate it. Thrilled about the idea she decided to match the initial $93 and now donate $186. Her Facebook friends also began matching the $93 donation. In 5 months, the donations eventually grew to $100,000! The donations went to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Silicon Valley.
There are so many positive impacts that giving can have on our lives and it can come in different forms. We would love to hear how giving has impacted your life, please share your story with us by emailing wsigalr@nd.edu.
