  • Early voting on campus begins tomorrow, Tuesday, Feb. 22 and Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2022 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily in the Western Hemispheric Trade Center lobby (WHTC). Please exercise this most precious of rights.
  • Our observance of Black History Month @ TAMIU continues.
  • Wednesday, Feb. 23 @ 4:30-5:30 p.m. STC 230 - Social Justice Leadership Series presents an in-person panel discussion, "Black Experiences at TAMIU." TAMIU faculty and students will share their experiences. Guest panelists include Dr. Peter Haruna (Professor and Director of Public Administration, Dr. Varaidzo Zvobgo (Assistant Professor of Public Administration), Simileoluwa Odunuga (undergraduate student), and other student leaders. Open to all TAMIU community members. Students receive Trailblazers Credit, a free Social Justice Leadership Series wristband, and a $10 Aramark Food Voucher!   • The College of Arts and Sciences’ Department of Fine and Performing Arts, in collaboration with Tim Rubel Human Shakes, invites individuals to enjoy an evening of story-driven dance performances focusing on love stores, as told through marginalized, Queer voices. The performance, “The Culture of Love/La Cultura Del Amor” takes the stage this Friday, Feb. 25, and Saturday, Feb. 26 at 8 p.m. at TAMIU's Center for the Fine and Performing Arts (CFPA) Theater. Admission to the dance performances is free. A three-day Master Class Series by Tim Rubel Human Shakes members is Feb. 24 – 26 at CFPA room 122.   • There’s something special coming to campus next month. Ballet Nepantla will bring its innovative ballet performance of “Valentina,” exploring the strength and resilience of women during the time of revolutionary México, to the CFPA Theatre Friday, March 4 at 7:30 p.m. Find out more.
  • Are you or could you be a human “Book?” Next month, University College will host the first-ever The Human Library. It aims to address people's prejudices by helping them talk to those they would not normally meet, using a library analogy that lends people instead of books -- and encourages all to ‘unjudge someone.’ Deadline to be a book is Feb. 27.   • The Office of Environmental Health & Safety has updated TAMIU emergency assembly area locations for improved safety and accessibility. Every TAMIU building has its own designated emergency assembly area for use in the event of a building evacuation. Some buildings may use the same area. Find out more, and download a map here.
  • Mandatory randomized surveillance COVID-19 testing for all members of the University community: students, faculty, and staff is underway. Emails have been distributed to notify individuals of their selection for testing. Once selected, you have 72 hours to test on campus at no charge. There are consequences for non-compliance with this mandatory testing requirement. Please review your University email account regularly.
  • On-campus testing and vaccination are part of our unified commitment to health and safety. Up-to-date information on testing, vaccination, and boosters is here. For more about our COVID-19 Pandemic response, visit our dedicated COVID-19 Response Center.

Let’s continue the use of recommended face coverings/masks, in addition to practicing distancing and rigorous hand-washing. The best defense continues to be vaccination and boosters, both offered free of charge every Wednesday in the Student Center Rotunda.

TAMIU CARES Applications Due Monday, Feb. 21

This Spring 2022, eligible undergraduate and graduate students can benefit from over $7.5 million in student support funding through TAMIU CARES. This support comes from the federal Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund appropriations, formerly known as the CARES grant. The deadline to apply is Monday, February 21, 2022.

Two Lecture Events Scheduled to Commemorate Black History Month at TAMIU

TAMIU continues its observation of Black History Month with two lecture events happening this week. Our Social Justice Leadership series presents "Black Experiences at TAMIU" this Wednesday, Feb. 23, 4:30-5:30 p.m. at Student Center 230. Our 'Diverse Cultures, Diverse Humanities' Virtual Lecture Series continues with a discussion by Dr. Gretchen Sullivan Sorin with her lecture, "Driving While Black: African American Travel and the Road to Civil Rights."

TAMIU's Black History Month Conclude on Tuesday, March 22, at 7 p.m., during the 'Diverse Cultures, Diverse Humanities' virtual lecture by Dr. Neal Lester titled, "Straight Talk about the Nword."

TAMIU ‘La Frontera’ Lecture Series Begins Feb. 24 with A&M Regent Mendoza

A new lecture series focused on ensuring Laredo’s children are healthy, supported, and arrive at school ready to learn is happening Thursday, Feb. 24 from 6 – 7 p.m. and features Texas A&M University System Regent Elaine Mendoza. The virtual lecture is free of charge and available to all.

The Culture of Love/La Cultura Del Amor Dance Performances This Weekend, Feb. 25 - 26

The College of Arts and Sciences’ Department of Fine and Performing Arts, in collaboration with Tim Rubel Human Shakes, invites individuals to enjoy an evening of story-driven dance performances focusing on love stores, as told through marginalized, Queer voices. Admission to the dance performances is free and open to the public.

Prior to the dance performances, a three-day Master Class Series by members of Tim Rubel Human Shakes is scheduled for Feb. 24 – 26 at the Fine and Performing Arts building, room 122. The classes are free and open to the public. Space is limited and is on a first-come, first-served basis. TAMIU Seeking Human ‘Books’ For The Human Library Event, March 24

Are you or could you be a human “Book?” Next month, University College will host the first-ever The Human Library. Dusty Promise Expands Income Levels for TAMIU Financial Assistance

Our recent 'Dusty Promise' expansion widens TAMIU's ability to help more students and their families. Through the 'Dusty Promise' Program, we pledged to provide enough scholarships and grants to pay tuition and mandatory fees for all eligible students.

Eligible and qualified students are:

🎓 Texas residents with an adjusted gross income of $100,000 or less

🎓 First Time Freshman or new Transfer Student admitted by March 15

🎓 Financial Aid application (FAFSA or TASFA) submitted by March 15

TAMIU Updates Emergency Assembly Areas

TAMIU ATHLETICS UPDATE

TAMIU is a member of the Lone Star Conference and competes in 11 sports: volleyball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's cross country, softball, baseball, men's and women's soccer, and men's and women's golf.
