When neutral position of the head cannot be safely attained, immobilize the head in the position found.

If the board is too short for the patient, always ensure that the head, neck, and spine are centered on the board properly. The feet and lower legs may extend past the end of the board if necessary.
3
If a chinstrap is used, make sure the patient can open their mouth to prevent aspiration should vomiting occur.
