Viking football defeats Carlmont in first league game

A strong defense by the Viking football team (3-1) helped secure a 34-24 victory against Carlmont High School (2-2) Friday night in Palo Alto.

Early into the first quarter, the Vikings score a touchdown and take the lead, 7-0.

At the bottom of the second quarter, no. 44 sophomore Danny Peters throws a pass, putting the Vikings up, 14-7.

We knew that if they [Carlmont] won this game, it would turn their program around," Giffen said. "So we knew they were gonna bring everything. And we brought everything and had a good outcome."

Football coach Nelson Gifford talks to the team after the game. Gifford said he is happy about the win, and ready to focus on the next game, against Wilcox High School.

“Walking away from a very, very good Carlmont team, it’s a positive,” Gifford said. “We’re going to look at the film, evaluate it, find out ways we can improve, find out what we did well, and find areas of growth.”
