The image on the top is Pearson’s photo of a train at the crossing near the Wallingford train station. The bottom is mine, which is inspired (compositionally and locationally) by his. I didn’t quite get the train in the same spot due to having single shot on. The photos scenery are basically the same with the exception of the snow, something we really haven’t had much of this year. I had a problem with this photo; blurriness. I unfortunately was in auto mode and didn’t think that the lighting was starting to get poor and I would have to put my shutter speed up. I feel like I was able to save the photo by making it grainy, which actually took some of the blur away. It also makes it look intentionally grainy, which adds some texture to the photo. I also had a shot of it further up from the crossing that was slightly zoomed and non-blurry but opted to use the photo more similar to the one I'm basing it off of.
Interestingly, for both of these pictures, I actually took a picture of the same train on the schedules as he did. The one going over the creek used to run with a different type of train and also ran in pure daylight. In the winter months (this train comes at around 4:50), it’s in sunset/civil twilight. For this photo, I positioned myself on the trail that goes from Avondale road to Rogers lane, the blue route walk. (Named that due to it being parallel to the Blue Route or I-476.) For this photo, I had a problem with it being too dark to avoid blurriness, so I had to make adjustments to make it look intentionally grainy. I feel like I saved this photo from being left behind as a bad photo by having Lightroom to use/edit.Interestingly, for both of these pictures, I actually took a picture of the same train on the schedules as he did. In this photo, I stood down low to get a unique shot of a train. In Pearson’s photo, he got a shot of it much closer but I opted to not since I knew it would be potentially blurry. For this photo, I had to figure out which scenery looked best (to me) around the train. The train was about 30 mins late and was taking in biting cold weather. Not the best time to be outside, but it was worth it to see the beautiful sunset!
This photo doesn’t really show my face per say, but it certainly is artful. I pulled this off (coincidently, this was an accident), by just putting the lens about 6 inches away from a reflective window, taking a picture of the reflection. It is artful to me because the blurred background of the posters outside the guidance office provides a nice backdrop for the photo.
People typically think of me as a gamer, just a lazy kid who sits on his computer and plays video games. This photo portrays that well since I am sitting in my room on my computer just in full focus on Minecraft. I really am like this though sometimes, especially when I’m stuck inside for the weekend. Here, I am preparing to capture a sheep for my next meal (when my hunger goes down.) Minecraft is always a game I play when I’m bored and no ones on, because the singleplayer is just as fun as multiplayer. Just have to fend for yourself.
People usually don’t see me as the type to work out, and honestly, I didn’t think I would either. I have been working out for about two months at this point. I was able to use my Dad’s total gym to work my core and in this picture (I later had to re-adjust to get the form, I didn’t have the right form. I had the photo focus on me and blur the background. I also made myself look very orange/red to show how I am sweating and working for something good.
Over the weekend of January 11th-12th I tried something new. My dad asked me to help him build a base for a shed we were to get. He gave me a brief instruction before sending me on my own. I was able to connect all the pieces of wood together to form a sturdy base to hold a new shed. I was using drills, multiple drill bits for different screws, a hammer, nails, and a rubber mallet. It was extremely satisfying to come to the final product which was a finished, sturdy, level shed base. For the photographs, I asked my dad to take multiple photos on his phone with me in the left or right side, rule of thirds. I was able to chalk up the photos to look very sepia-theme like to match the wood that I was working with. My dad’s phone camera is also pretty good, too, so it’s not like the photos are of worse quality.
