Dear University community,
- Sunday’s AEP-required electrical maintenance was completed well before the projected completion time, with power fully restored to the campus by 1:00 p.m. We thank the fine AEP crew for their help with this and also recognize the support provided by Campus Safety and Planning, Student Housing, Environmental Health and Safety, and University Police.
- Thanks to all who participated in last week’s special on-campus COVID-19 Bivalent Booster Clinic. Who knew a Starbucks gift card could be so popular? We’re planning additional Bivalent Booster Clinics, so watch this space.
- Last Thursday, we welcomed members of the Watson Family for the opening of a Retrospective exhibit of the works of Julie E. Watson, famed Laredo artist in the Sue & Radcliffe Killam Library. The Watson’s have a long history of supporting the arts at TAMIU (see our Helen Richter Watson Gallery) and we’re delighted to host this legacy of works celebrating Texas and México.

- Monkeypox is a rare disease caused by infection with the monkeypox virus. As the disease also remains a threat to college campuses, TAMIU students are encouraged to remain informed about the disease. A new comprehensive multiyear initiative designed to help institutions close equity gaps for Black, Latinx, Indigenous, and low-income students led by six national and regional organizations will include TAMIU in its second national cohort. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation announced last week they will spend $100 million over five years to fund six nonprofit organizations working to help transform colleges.
