Roots A game about trichotillomania

Only one to two percent of the worlds population suffers from Trichotillomania. So I wouldn't be surprised if you've never heard of it.

'Roots' is a story based game that follows a girl named Maddie Everett. You follow her through the 7 years she's unknowingly suffered from Trichotillomania. This game shows not only how Trichotillomania affects her, but also how the people around her affect Maddie's life and mentality. All throughout her life she saw herself as a freak who pulls out her own hair. She thought she was alone. But will she find the light at the end of the tunnel?

About the game

This game is based off of my own experience with having Trichotillomania. I have suffered from it for years, and it was only recently that I found out what was wrong with me and starting getting help for it. The main goal in releasing this game is to raise awareness on what Trichotillomania is and how bad it can be to a person's mental health if they don't have proper treatment and support for what they're going through.

About the Developer

Deserae Conley, sole developer of 'Roots'

Like I've said above, Maddie's story relates to my own personal struggles with Trichotillomania. I have had it since the 5th grade and I'm now a High School Graduate going to college for Communications and New Media. Where I hope that it will one day lead me to become a game designer and start my own company here in Maine. I want to make 'Roots' to spread awareness on Trichotillomania. For years my mental health has suffered because myself and the people around me didn't know how to treat it. My goal with this game is to help spread awareness on what Trichotillomania is, and hopefully people will know how to get the proper treatment for it.
