GLACIERS ExplorinG SOME OF Alaska's Many Glaciers

This past Summer my good friend Sarah and I spent 8 weeks backpacking, hitch hiking and camping around Alaska. To say the least, it was incredible. I still have so much to tell and share beyond this glacier set. We saw so much, met so many amazing people and have many more stories to share. So to start things off, here is a small batch of glacier focused images from our trip. Enjoy!
We explored over a dozen glaciers by foot, kayak, plane and helicopter. It's amazing how different they all are. I definitely have a new love for glaciers and the textures they offer. I also love how they are always changing. You can go back a week later and a cave is gone or a new one appears.
DENALI PARK AREA
One of the first glaciers we explored was in Denali Park area called Eldridge Glacier. We flew with Talkeetna Air Taxi out of the awesome little climbing town of Talkeetna. With all the bad weather we were having we got really lucky with our flight. Beautiful low clouds hugging the peaks. It was perfect. Then we landed and that was even better! We also flew to North Fork Glacier with Era Helicopters out of Danali Park.
MATANUSKA GLACIER
Matanuska Glacier was probably my favorite Glacier of all. It felt like it was straight out of a movie, almost fake, especially when the sun hit. As you can see from the pictures below, the textures and formations are what really make this one incredible. Thanks to our new "REI" friends for taking us ice climbing here for summer solstice.
HARRIMAN FJORD/GLACIER
When we visited Whittier and found out there was a flight over a glacier named after me, I just had to go. So Sarah and I booked it! We flew with Salterwater Excursions over the Harriman Fjord and Glacier as well as a few other areas! The whole flight was amazing.
SNOWBIRD GLACIER
This may be the highlight of the trip. Our friends Jussi, Drew and Heather took us on a 5 day backpacking trip in Hatcher Pass called the Bomber Traverse. The area was beyond incredible. Can't wait to get back here, in better shape hah!
After staying at Mint Hut and Bomber Hut we ended up at our last stop, Snowbird Hut and Snowbird Glacier for two nights. We were greeted with incredible low clouds, photos and timelapse to come later. But during the day we explored the Snowbird Glacier Moulins. Pictures below.
SEWARD AREA
After spending a lot of time north of Anchorage we decided to take the Alaska Railroad down to Seward to explore a new area. We started off by hiking up Exit Glacier as well before enjoying the Fourth of July celebrations. To finish Seward off we took a 2.5 hour flight tour with Seward Helicopter Tours around the Kenai Peninsula. We flew over Resurrection Bay, Harding Ice Field, Bear Glacier, Elswoth Glacier and a few others. It was the most incredible flight I have ever taken.
VALDEZ AREA
After 5 weeks without a car we finally picked one up (Thanks Avis Alaska) and drove to Valdez. We had plenty of rain but the drive was beautiful regardless. After we ended up at Root Glacier in the Wrengell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve with our buddies Jussi, Drew and Branden.

MENDENHALL GLACIER
For the last week of our trip we flew down to Southern Alaska to check out Mendenhall Glacier and search for some ice caves! Thanks to our new friends at Adventure Flow for showing us around and finding us some gold.
