What is Furkids?
Furkids is a 501c3 nonprofit charitable organization that operates the largest cage-free, no-kill shelter in the Southeast for rescued cats and a no-kill division for dogs. At these locations, animals experience the best care in a loving, safe environment until they are adopted into forever homes.
Mission of Furkids
The Furkids mission is to help end pet overpopulation in Georgia through sterilization, high-quality adoption and by providing valuable spay/neuter services and pet care education to people in the community.

Why is Furkids needed?
- Approximately 90,000 dogs and cats are killed in Metro Atlanta every year.
- There are 70 million homeless animals in the United States
- Approximately 2.4 million animals are euthanized in shelters each year
- Only 15-30 percent of dogs that are lost are reunited with their owners and for cats the numbers fall to less than 5 percent
Where does Furkids get their money from?
- Furkids operating budget is approximately $1,200,000 a year
- The majority of revenue comes from individual donations, some from fundraising efforts, and a small portion comes from our adoption fees
Facts & Information
- On any given day, there are about 1, 600 dogs and cats in Furkids’ care
- Furkids has rescued and altered more than 15,000 animals since its founding in 2002
- In 2014 we rescued 1, 724 cats and 681 dogs totaling more than 2,405 animals saved.
- Most of our animals arrive abandoned and homeless, many are from kill shelters on their last day and others are from owners who can no longer care for them
- Furkids rescues senior animals, special needs animals, heart worm positive animals, and animals that need life saving medical attention
Adoption Information and Cost
- Dogs and cats that are available for adoption are listed on our website with pictures and bios of each animal. If you are interested in adopting one of our Furkids, please complete an Online application at https://furkids.org/
- $85 for one or two adult cats (6 months of age and older)
- $125 for one or two kittens (under 6 months of age), $200 for three, $250 for four
- $175 for one adult cat and one kitten
- No adoption fee for senior cats (8 years and older) or FIV+ cats
- $295 for puppies 6 months and under
- $275 for adult dogs
- $75 for senior dogs (8 years and older)
- The adoption fee includes testing, complete medical care, vaccinations, microchip, and spay/neuter. We also provide a copy of the animal’s medical records, which you can give to your vet
- Furkids hosts adoption events at Petco and Petsmart stores. Locations are listed on the Furkids website
How Can I help?
- Become a volunteer for Furkids. All you have to do is complete an application at https://furkids.org/volunteer
- Foster a dog, cat, kitten, or puppy. Fostering is essential because if the shelter is out of space, we cannot continue saving lives from animal control facilities. We will supply food, medicine, and of course, veterinary care for any animals you foster. Fill out an application at https://furkids.org/volunteer/foster-home-application
- Donate items to the shelter. The wishlist of items requested for the shelter can be found at https://furkids.org/donation/wish-list
- Shelter items needed regularly are: Clorox bleach or wipes, dog/cat beds (new or used), towels (new or used), canned pumpkin, low sodium chicken broth, quality dog treats (made in America), paper towels, Nyla bones, Kong toys, pill pockets, Amazon or Costco gift cards, 13 gallon kitchen garbage bags, Purina Pro Plan, Focus, Puppy food, Fancy Feast Classic Chicken Can, unscented laundry detergent
