Dear University community,
Tomorrow is Election Day.
- You can cast your vote on campus from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the Western Hemispheric Trade Center (WHTC) lobby. Remember, you can vote at ANY Voting Center location, no matter your precinct. As the late Congressman and Civil Rights leader John Lewis said, “The vote is precious, it is almost sacred. It is the most powerful nonviolent tool we have in a democratic society. And we have to use it.”
It’s a busy week ahead:
- Monday, November 7 – We celebrate and recognize First Gen students as part of a dedicated series of events happening Monday, Nov. 7 – Thursday, Nov. 10. Organized through the Office of Student Orientation, Leadership and Engagement, first-generation (First Gen) students are those with parents who have not earned a four-year degree. Here’s the Celebration Schedule. Meet First Gen students and faculty members here.
- Tuesday, November 8 – From 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. the Student Center Ballroom will host The Service Expo 2022. Students will share their Service Learning Experiences and judged for their presentation and project design. Come by and visit with your classmates. A special highlight will include the Border Lit presentation of books they’ve authored to the TAMIU-Lamar Bruni Vergara Literacy Partnership.
- Wednesday, Nov. 9– “Democracy in Latin America Today: Political Change or Upheaval?” will be presented at the TAMIU IBC Bank and Commerce Bank 2022-2023 Keynote Speaker Series at 6 p.m. in the Student Center Ballroom. Lecturer Dr. Christopher Sabatini, a senior research fellow on Latin America at Chatham House’s U.S. and the Americas Programme, will present this lecture.
- Wednesday and Thursday, Nov. 9 and 10– The traveling cast of the Texas Shakespeare Festival’s Roadshow will make its first-ever appearance here, presenting two performances, both free of charge and open to the public. The first, at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 9, will be “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” The second and final performance will be “Macbeth, on Thursday, Nov. 10, also at 8 p.m. Don’t miss out on this rare opportunity to see Shakespeare performed live and free. Invite your friends and family to join us.
- Wildlife on campus deserves your respect AND your distance. They all belong here, and we want to maintain a peaceful co-existence with them based on respect and distance. They are wild animals. They are not your pet. Find out more.
- Good News…You can get your coffee on earlier now at TAMIU’s Starbucks. New hours of operation are Monday - Thursday from 7 a.m. – 9:30 p.m. and on Fridays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. That means you can get your coffee on campus BEFORE you head off to your 8 a.m. class or work Closed Sat-Sun.
Coming Next Week:
- TAMIU observes International Education Week Nov. 14 – 18. Take a peek at what we have planned.
- In closing, this past Saturday, we welcomed hundred to campus for our seventh annual hosting of the 2022 Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Thanks to all students, faculty, staff and alumni who volunteered and served as part of Team TAMIU to help fund research for a cure for this tragic disease that’s so prevalent in our community and nation.
- COVID-19 is still a threat here, across our State, nation, and world. Recommended face coverings/masks, and rigorous hand-washing can help reduce your exposure risk. Learn more about free on-campus testing.
Let’s all work together to ensure that this is a great week…Go Dustdevils!

Wildlife Here on Campus: No, They're Not Your Pet
As most are aware, Texas A&M International University’s (TAMIU) 300-acre campus is also home to an extended community of regional wildlife. You’ll find white-tailed deer, javelinas (feral hogs), and assorted small animals and snakes. They all belong here and TAMIU strives to maintain a peaceful co-existence between human and animal communities. We respect them…and you should too.
Some of these animals frequently herd and feed on campus at irregular times, sometimes with their young. Protective parents of younger animals can assume defensive postures. Do not engage or otherwise aggravate them further by approaching them. They know what they’re doing.
Please DO NOT:
- Approach to take pictures (use the Zoom feature on your camera or smartphone)
- Try to Pet
- Try to Catch
- Feed Them!
