Divergent One-Pager Made by: Lydia Malen
This One-Pager is about Divergent, by Veronica Roth. It stars Tris, Four and Christina.
A character trait for Tris that I found is that she is very courageous. I know this because in the beginning of the book on page 59 it said "I just jumped off a roof", this is when Tris and the other Dauntless jumped of the roof, which was a big well jump for her protected personality. She continues to act out in bravery all throughout the book.
I found Christina to be very sassy, and by that I mean she had a lot of attitude and talked back to her superiors more often then not. I know this because on page 62 it said, "'Four? Like the number?'" This was when Four was welcoming the transfers to Dauntless and Christina was making jokes about his name, which she quickly stopped after he made a scene and scared her.
Throughout the book I've learned that Four/Tobias is very secretive and at times confidential. I found on page 238 that Four said in the book said, "'It's not important'" this was when Tris was questioning him about his fears but he didn't want to seem weak so he kept them secret.
The main settings if this book are the main city and the Dauntless headquarters. Some evidence from the book describing the locations are, "The houses on my street are all the same size and shape", pg. 27. Also on page 61 the book says, "The walls are made of stone, and the ceiling slopes, so I feel like I am descending deep into the heart of the earth." Personally, I love the scenery of this book.
In this book; Divergent, the conflict is that one of the main characters, Tris Prior has to choose a Faction or a group of people to live with but once she chooses Dauntless she had to accustom herself to her new life, which is extremely difficult. I've found three examples of evidence for this conflict, one from the beginning, middle and end. First, "He left me no other option", pg. 41(when Tris decides to join Dauntless) . On page 235 that book says, "I open my eyes and I am sitting in a metal chair"(when Tris faces the final stage of training). And lastly, "I am not Dauntless, I am Divergent."(when she becomes more then Dauntless or any other faction and resides as Divergent), pg. 413.
The figurative language that I found is a smilie, that is a direct comparison between two things using like or as. On page 239/240 Divergent says, "I feel warmer, like he's giving off some kind of energy that I am only now close enough to feel".
I've found a total of 3 vocabulary words from my book. First, from page 216, "'Have you ever read the Faction-less MANIFESTOS?'". I've learned that the definition of this word(manifestos) is; a public declaration of policy and aims, especially one issued before an election by a political party or candidate. In other words it's a book of laws or rules. Next, I found on page 206, "Now they Perdue knowledge and INGENUITY with greedy hearts." Definition: the quality of being clever, original, and inventive. Lastly, on page 213, "She must not know that if she speaks of him with such REVERENCE" definition; deep respect for someone or something.
The theme of this book is: You can be More than you Seem. I've found multiple pieces of evidence.
Additional information: I recommend this book because the writing is well structured and continuously interesting. Also I love the characters that Veronica Roth has created.
