RETURN TO ON SITE LEARNING Thank you to the school community for your cooperation and consideration as we returned to onsite arrangements last week. We know there were some variations to how we ‘normally’ do things, especially as they related to pick-ups after school and the complete absence of parents ‘onsite’, but nonetheless the reasons for these were recognised and arrangements adhered to. Most importantly, our students were thrilled to be back at school with their friends and there has definitely been a buzz around the schoolgrounds all week.
FINAL DAY OF TERM DISMISSAL Just a reminder that the last day of term (Friday, June 25), sees us dismissing at the slightly earlier time of 2.30pm.
BUILDING SURVEY Thank you to the parents and staff members who filled in responses to our recently administered building survey. You will be aware of our recent funding announcement, and the process is underway with our School Council being involved in the formulation and approval of an ‘Asset Management Plan’ – part 1. This plan articulates the educational opportunities afforded by the Capital Works Project we will be undertaking in 2022. Our ‘Asset Management Plan – part 2’ will be the more practical ‘building’ planning, marrying the educational opportunities desired with the building modernisations affordable. We will be working on that throughout the remainder of this year, with the selection of architects and then their involvement with different groups of our school community (staff, parents, students) to canvass opinions and formulate designs . For all intents and purposes, the Capital Works Project should be completed NO LATER than June 2023, and hopefully much earlier.
SCHOOL COUNCIL School Council met via WebEx on Tuesday night and a range of matters were deliberated on and discussed. School Council approved the final pupil free day for 2021 being Monday, November 1 (the day before Cup Day). They have previously also approved Thursday, July 15 as a pupil free day for the purposes of conducting three way conferences in the first week of Term 3. School Council discussed the Building Program at length, as well as formally approving our next Strategic Plan. This is now available on our school website.
That’s it from me. I hope you all have a lovely weekend.
Kind regards,
Bill Kersing
Principal
Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD) Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about supports provided to students with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines (2019).
Information provided about students to the Australian Government for the NCCD includes:
- year of schooling
- category of disability: physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional
- level of adjustment provided: support provided within quality differentiated teaching practice, supplementary, substantial or extensive.
To be included, the adjustment/s provided must have evidence of:
- consultation and collaboration with the student and/or their parents, guardians or carers
- the assessed identified needs of the student
- adjustments provided to the student to address their identified needs
- monitoring and review of the impact of the adjustments provided.
In our context at Viewbank Primary School, students will be included in the NCCD process if they have (amongst other things) evidence of an ILP in 2021, notes from parent teacher interviews or emails that outline adjustments in the classroom, participation in Literacy and/or Numeracy support classes, had an educational assessment (cognitive, hearing, speech etc) that outlines particular strategies that need to be implemented, the school receives funding for a students under the Program For Students with Disabilities, etc.
This information assists schools to:
- formally recognise the supports and adjustments provided to students with disability in schools
- consider how they can strengthen the support of students with disability in schools
- develop shared practices so that they can review their learning programs in order to improve educational outcomes for students with disabilities.
The NCCD provides state and federal governments with the information they need to plan more broadly for the support of students with disability.
The NCCD will have no direct impact on your child and your child will not be involved in any testing process. The school will provide data to the Australian Government in such a way that no individual student will be able to be identified – the privacy and confidentiality of all students is ensured. All information is protected by privacy laws that regulate the collection, storage and disclosure of personal information. To find out more about these matters, please refer to the Australian Government’s Privacy Policy.
Further information about the NCCD can be found on the NCCD Portal.
If you have any questions about the NCCD, please contact the school.
Have a great week!

Teachers will work with students to formulate their goals that will assist them to develop both a drive and passion for their learning. When school SMART goals are created, it can empower students to take responsibility for their learning and encourage positive learning habits for life.

WEAR SOMETHING BLUE FOR REFUGEES - Thursday 24 June In Year 6, we have recently learned about the conditions of some refugees who have had to flee their homes because of danger, harassment or unfair treatment of their gender, religious views or identity. Some refugees have to stay in refugee camps in terrible conditions for a long time. As our Inquiry Action, we have asked the JSC to help us raise funds to help people who need support at the refugee camps.
- What to do: Wear something blue for refugees and bring a gold coin donation.
- When: Thursday Week 10 - 24 June
Blue is the colour of the UN and is seen as a sign of hope. We will be donating the money to UNHCR (The UN Refugee Agency). One goal we have is to be able to fund a refugee family with a waterproof tent to provide them shelter while they are at the refugee camp.
We thank you for your donation and support of our project. Amielle, Chloe and the JSC.
