Wondering: I know that raro dissolves in water, What substance will other powders will dissolve the quickest in hot water?
Hypothesis: My hypothesis is that the sugar will be the quickest, I think this because when you make a hot drink and add sugar it dissolves fast.
Materials:, Sand, Sugar, Salt, Self raising flour, Citric Acid, Cornflour, Measuring spoons, ½ tablespoons,80mls of warm water, 6 little bowls
Variables:
Independent: The powdered substance
Control: amount of power, Amount of water, temperature.
Dependent: The flour made a glue like substance, the sand had a weird reaction. The citric acid dissolved fast.
Procedure:
Fill 6 beakers with 80mls
Measure ½ a tablespoon of each substance into a little bowl.
Add them into the water at the same time.
Start the timer as soon as the powder hits the water
Results/Observations:
The citric acid was the quickest at 4 minutes and 18 seconds.
The sugar was the second fastest at 8 minutes and 14 seconds.
Salt came 3rd.
Sand, flour and Cornflour did nothing
Conclusion:
Sugar dissolves faster in hot water than it does in cold water because it has something to do with the way the sugar molecules react to the water molecules. The water molecules get heated which makes them have more energy and makes it move faster which gives it more opportunity to come in contact with the sugar molecules.
