Surf Sports
Surf Sports events are held throughout the season, including Carnivals & Clinics
Accredited Coaching & Official Courses are available for parents. At carnivals a club must have 1 Official for every 8 competitors.
At Carnivals we need parents to help with tents & equipment
Water safety standards include:
- 1 officer to 5 children (1:5 ratio)
- High visibility rash shirts and caps
- Risk assessments documented
- One water safety personnel for every 10 competitors at a carnival

Overall, our Junior Activities Program aims to build:
- Life Skills - from surf skills in the water to resuscitation and basic first aid.

Family involvement in sport builds families as well as communities. Active parents provide positive role models for children for engaging in sport and for maintaining lifelong activity.
On average, it takes over 50 people to run a Junior Activities program of 200 junior members. Involvement can provide you with fitness, new skills development and new interesting experiences.
We would love you to engage and will send you our Family Participation form to fill in, here are some of the areas where parents can get on board:
- Helping with the BBQ / Canteen
- Assisting with Club Fundraising or raffles
- Assisting with Nipper activities beach set up/pack up
- Gear and Equipment Maintenance
- Education or Training of Members
- Being an official at carnivals
- Being a coach assisting with training
- Assisting with Water Safety at the club
- Being an Age Manager
- Completing my Bronze Medallion or Surf Rescue Certificate and Patrol
- Completing my Bronze Medallion or Surf Rescue Certificate and assist with Water Safety at the club
- Completing other Awards and Patrol
- Youth Activities or Development
- Being a member of the Junior Activities Committee
- Becoming a member of the Club Management Committee
Surf Life Saving offers exciting pathways for juniors and adults
Cairns Surf Life Saving club is one of five clubs that are part of our North Queensland Branch, the most Northern Branch of Surf Life Saving Queensland.
- Surf Life Saving in Queensland is made up of 58 surf clubs from Rainbow Bay to Port Douglas
- 6 Branches - Point Danger, South Coast, Sunshine Coast, Wide Bay Capricorn, North Barrier and North Queensland
