How to make an 'Easy A' Step-by-step instructions for this "not-so-easy" task

Some "recipes" are quite difficult to master, but the end result makes it worth the effort. Such is the case with the Convocation Script A. Inspired by the UA Division of Student Life two years ago, the event serves as an opportunity "to provide a space for students to create lasting friendships and memories at the iconic Bryant-Denny Stadium." While a challenging undertaking, this masterpiece, sprinkled with Roll Tides and best "served" on a field of green where quite a few football legends have played, has all the makings of a bona fide classic.

Prep Time: 2 months

Cook Time: 30 to 90 minutes

Difficulty Level: Moderate

YOU WILL NEED

  • 2,000 plus students
  • 1 Big Al
  • Red/white Convocation Script A T-shirts
  • Water bottle

1. PREPARE THE "WORK STATION"

Coordinate with UA's Director of Bands Dr. Kenneth Ozzello, University Programs, Athletics Department and Student Life Division through multiple email exchanges. Determine a time based on everyone's schedule and the best visibility for photos.

NOTE: Try to find a time when the shadows are less severe on the field.

STEP 2: MAKE THE OUTLINE

Preheat the field to 85 degrees with stadium lights. Take 400 UA band members. March each one into an outline of the Script A.

STEP 3: ADD THE "FILLING"

As the field continues to heat up, add groups of new UA students every few minutes. Continue until the A is filled.

NOTE: To ensure consistency, have the band members wear red Convocation Script A T-shirts while the freshmen wear white. Shirts are provided by UA.

STEP 4: SEASON THE "A" AND SERVE

Mix in a few UA cheerleaders and 1 Big Al for some extra Crimson Tide spirit. Serve on green turf and garnish with a "Roll Tide."

STEP 5: SAY CHEESE

Rest for 5 minutes while photo is being taken.

Note: To ensure quality, hold the "A" very still. Sudden movements could ruin the final creation.
