Perched atop a mountain on the eastern border of Rancho Santa Fe lives a legendary family in the world of motorsports. Starting in the 50s and 60s with the Formula 1 and NASCAR career of Bob Said, this success was carried onwards by his son, Boris Said III in his extensive racing career spanning four decades that saw him compete in NASCAR, X Games, and international races. Now, Boris Said IV is looking to continue the racing history associated with his family name.
Boris IV drives his Polaris along the harder of the two dirt roads that lead to his house. The Said's house is only accessible by the "easy" and the "hard" dirt roads. The "hard" road, officially called Suerte Del Este and unofficially called Spooks by teenagers in the area, lines a steep canyon and is frequented by dirt bikers and drivers. Boris IV has been driving this road since he was 13.
Boris III pets his dog as Boris IV adjusts the tire pressure of his Polaris after a recent drive. This hands on approach to fixing equipment is one passed from father to son. Welding, engine construction, tire adjustments, and more are all done in this garage, and learning these skills has been a rite of passage for Boris IV.
Boris IV sits next to Boris III's chair from the Budweiser Shootout, a race that kicks off the NASCAR season and is meant to prepare drivers for the Daytona 500. Boris IV has big shoes to fill, but after making his official racing debut in the Trans-Am series this year , he is ready to continue his family's legacy.
