It all started with this couple, Bong and Gina Baylon. Having experienced different types of churches, big and small, they dreamed of starting a church that will prioritize both the word of God as well as relationships in the context of real community. They wanted to help everyone they encountered to experience a different kind of life, a God-kind-of-life, together with others. As they prayed and thought about this kind of life, they eventually called it "Real Life."
Four other couples joined them in pursuing this vision: Mojet and Josephine Tolentino, Edwin and Marifi Gumatay, Terry and Tess Reyes, and Rey and Maret Saron. They began learning about this kind of life -- loving God and loving one another, as well as the lost, while learning the word of God together. It took a while before this vision became a reality in this first community. Through various heartaches and conflicts, this group became the Core Group of the church. Then the Lord added daily those who were being saved through this ministry. In 1997 the church began meeting formally at the fourth floor of Tayao Building, located at Mabini Street, San Pedro, Laguna.
They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved. (Acts 2:42-47, NIV)
