Isolation Guide Hotel Ignacio 3411 Olive St., St. Louis, MO

Introduction

You are staying in Hotel Ignacio because you tested positive for COVID-19. This hotel gives students space to heal, while reducing the risk of others getting sick.

This guide will offer you requirements and information for your stay.

Key contacts

Do you have a basic care need (if you run out of toilet paper, have a package delivery, need someone to pick up your books, haven’t received a meal, etc.)?

  • You can call the attendant at the front desk (314-977-4411), who can help with some needs, such as toilet paper.
  • You can also call or text the housing coordinator (Heather) at 314-356-4002.
  • Can’t reach them? Contact the back-up line (Ashley) at 314-356-6664.

Do you have a health care need or question?

  • Call the Student Health Center at 314-977-2323. A nurse is on call 24/7 (just dial 9 after hours when the menu prompts you). If you are feeling shortness of breath at rest, chest pain, if you are feeling faint or have a severe mental fog, please call Student Health and/or 911 immediately.

Other helpful contacts

  • Isolation can be difficult. You should stay connected with family and friends as often as you can virtually, but also know that the University Counseling Center is always available as well. Call 314-977-TALK (8255) any time to set up an appointment or to reach an on-call counselor.
  • The Dean of Students Office is available to support you as you navigate isolation/quarantine housing. If you have any questions or would like to schedule a virtual appointment, please email deanofstudents@slu.edu. The Dean of Students Office is open Monday- Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m.
  • Campus Ministry has great virtual resources available to help you. They are also available by phone, 314-977-2425 during business hours to set up an appointment.
  • Do you have a technology issue? Contact the IT Help Desk during business hours at 314-977-4000, or email helpdesk@slu.edu.
  • Do you have questions or concerns about your safety? Contact SLU’s Department of Public Safety (DPS) at 314-977-3000.
  • Do you have a maintenance need or facility emergency (plumbing, loss of heat or water, etc.)? Contact the housing coordinator at 314-356-4002 for instructions on how to get in touch with emergency maintenance (if applicable).

General information

We know that isolating is tough, and we hope you take advantage of the previously-mentioned resources available to you. Our Student Development team (Dean of Students Office, University Counseling Center, Student Health, etc.) are always here for you.

What you need to know

  • Upon arrival, You will receive your room number from the Housing Coordinator. When you arrive at Hotel Ignacio, you will give the security guard your room number and name and they will give you a key.
  • Stay in your room. You are not allowed to leave your room while you isolate in Hotel Ignacio unless it is to go for your outdoor time. This includes going to get food or to pick up something you may have forgotten at your on-campus housing. If you have a basic need, please contact the isolation housing coordinator at 314-356-4002.
  • Leaving Ignacio: The Housing team cannot let you move out until Student Health or the Housing Coordinator has cleared you to do so. Once you are cleared by Student Health or the Housing Coordinator to leave, contact the Housing Coordinator (314-356-4002) to arrange transportation back to campus, if needed or to schedule a time to return to campus on your own. You may be picked up by a friend but coordinate this with the Housing Coordinator.
  • Want to finish your isolation at home? No problem. Just contact the housing coordinator (314-356-4002) to go over the details.
  • Upon check out, you will give your room key to the security guard and give them your name and room number to check out.

Failure to comply with this will result in a referral to the Office of Student Responsibility and Community Standards. There is more information about that process at the end of this document.

  • Others in isolation: Under no circumstances should you enter the room of another person who is in isolation, nor should you allow another student who is in isolation into your room. Again, failure to comply will result in a conduct referral.
  • Parking: If you drive to Hotel Ignacio, you should park your car in the Olive/Compton visitor garage. If you get a ticket, please email it to pandemic@slu.edu to get it resolved.
  • No visitors allowed: While your friends and family are welcome to drop off items you may need to the lobby of the building, visitors are not allowed in Hotel Ignacio. This is to protect their health and safety. We strongly encourage you to take advantage of every opportunity to connect with them via Zoom, FaceTime, WhatsApp or any other virtual platform.
  • Food delivery: You are welcome to have food or groceries delivered to the hotel. The building address is 3411 Olive Street (63103). Food should be delivered to the front desk security with appropriate room number. listed on your order. You may go pick up your food from the lobby of the hotel by the front desk after the driver has left the hotel. You must wear your mask.
  • Laundry is not available at Hotel Ignacio.
  • Trash: You can leave your trash outside of your hotel room door. Someone will come by to pick it up a few times each day.
  • Outdoor time  is available up to 2 hours per day between 7a-5p. You can utilize your two hours however you would like between 7a-5p (i.e. one hour in the morning and another in the afternoon, or two hours at once). Options can include running, walking, studying, reading, etc. You must wear a mask and keep distance from others. If you run into someone you know, keep your interaction brief and continue your outdoor time. Located at the front desk is a sign-out sheet for when you leave and a sign-in sheet for when you return. You may NOT go inside anywhere or leave the hotel/campus area. Failure to comply with this will result in a referral to the Office of Student Responsibility and Community Standards. More information about that process is at the end of this document.
  • Cable: The rooms do have TVs but there is no cable connection. You can download the Charter Spectrum U app and view all channels as long as you are connected to SLU's WiFi. In addition, you can stream Charter Spectrum channels on your computer while you are on SLU network using this link: https://watch.spectrum.net/livetv
  • WiFi: Internet in Hotel Ignacio is the same network as it is on campus (SLU Users).
  • Video game systems: If you'd like to connect your video game console to the television in the hotel room, be sure to bring the right cables and an ethernet cord. Please be sure to review ITS' rules about this process.

Eating during isolation & quarantine

Meals are delivered once per day by SLU to the fridge in the lobby per the following schedule:

  • Breakfast & a snack are delivered by SLU with the lunch the day before.
  • Lunch: Between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.
  • Dinner: An UberEats voucher will be emailed to you between 4:30pm and 5:00pm each day. The voucher is only good to use that evening and will expire at midnight. When ordering, ensure your room number is listed. Once your food is delivered, you may go pick up your meal in the lobby. You must be wearing a mask.

Health information

Again, know that the Student Health Center has nurses available 24/7 to answer your health-related questions and concerns. Your health and safety are our No. 1 priority.

If you are isolating due to testing positive with COVID-19 and have questions about symptoms, or general medical questions, contact the Student Health Center any time by calling 314-977-2323. Student Health Center is open Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. If it is after hours, call 314-977-2323 and press 9 to speak with an after-hours nurse or option 0 to speak with a front desk staff member during normal business hours.

You can also call Student Health to request a virtual appointment with a staff doctor or physician's assistant.

Possible symptoms include:

  • Fever
  • Chills
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath
  • Fatigue
  • Sore throat
  • Nausea
  • Abdominal pain
  • Diarrhea
  • Headache
  • Body aches
  • Loss of taste/smell

Take your temperature daily, even if you feel well. If you develop a fever of 100.4 degrees or higher, call Student Health immediately.

Your privacy and safety are extremely important to us. The Student Health Center does communicate the minimum amount of necessary information to other departments in order to ensure you have what you need and are supported while you quarantine. This includes the Dean of Students Office, University Counseling Center, Housing & Residence Life, Dining, the Department of Public Safety and Facilities.

Failure to comply notice

It is important to understand the seriousness of these instructions. Your failure to comply with these public health directives will be reported to the Office of Student Responsibility and Community Standards (OSRCS). If found responsible for violations of Failure to Comply (2.7.14) and Harm to Community (2.7.18), or other applicable Community Standards, you may incur sanctions, including but not limited to being restricted from campus, being suspended from the University and/or ultimately expulsion. You may also face restrictions from places on campus such as the Pius Library or the Simon Rec Center. Serious non-compliance may result in an Interim Suspension from the University pending the outcome of the Investigation by OSRCS.
