8:56 a.m. - Senior Abhi Bhandari works on his AP Biology assignment during his off period. “This class is a lot of work, but I find the subject very interesting,” Bhandari said. In Biology, Bhandari is learning more about the reproduction system and it's purpose in the human body.
9:07 a.m. - Sophomore Jackson Reynolds works on turning in his Biology assignments due at the end of the period. “Right now we are working on our cellular energy unit,” said Reynolds. “The unit contains topics like cellular respiration and photosynthesis.” The cellular energy unit is the second to last unit of the semester for the Biology classes.
9:12 a.m. - Juniors Jason Simpson and Rylan Tuers create a song in their US History class about the early 1900's. "We're writing a song about Babe Ruth to the tune of 'Mo Bamba' by Sheck Wes," Simpson said. "Doing unique projects like [writing a song] makes learning much more fun and exciting." The students were allowed to choose any sort of medium to explain the early 1900's to the class.
9:50 a.m. - Senior Ian Spillman works on his math assignment during his ACC College Algebra class. “This class is a lot of work, but its pretty easy to grasp the overall concepts being taught,” Spillman said. Spillman is learning about ellipses and other circular shapes in his ACC College Algebra class.
9:54 a.m. - Sophomores Hayden Latka and Clark Winters work on their ceramics project. “I’ve learned you have to put effort into everything you do in order to be successful,” Latka said. Latka and Winters are creating bowls from clay, using newspaper and other bowls as molds.
12:02 p.m. - Sophomore Anna Frain works on her historical arguments paper for AP European History. “We are getting ready for a debate between the different social classes about the injustices during the French Revolution,” Frain said. The debate was held days after, with Frain winning the debate.
1:30 p.m. - Student Haley Elliot listens to Lil Peep's post-mortem album. “I really love Lil Peep’s music,” said Elliott. “He didn’t deserve to die so young.” The 13-track album was released the morning, almost a year after the rapper’s death.
1:42 p.m. - Sophomore Brook Strouse plays Kahoot in her Algebra II class. “We’re playing a fun game of Kahoot today because it’s Friday” Strouse said. “It’s nice to have a break from math every once in a while.” The students had to guess the name of the song that was being played.
1:57 p.m. - Junior Aly Aeschleman examines her positive and negative photos in Photography I. “ My favorite picture that I created was a close up photo of a flower because it showed the detail in nature,” said Aeschleman. Photography 1 is currently working on pinhole cameras with positive and negative photos.
2:03 p.m. - Freshman Will Hooper listens to a Solidworks tutorial for his Intro To Engineering class. “We are [learning to create] a bunch of different shapes [in order] to get used to the software,” Hooper said. Solidworks is a professional engineering software that many engineering students use for their projects.
2:05 p.m. - Senior Charlie Fu utilizes his off period to work on his AP Literature & Composition homework. "This assignment is due in 40 minutes, so I'm working very hard to complete it," Fu said. Fu encourages the current juniors to consider taking AP Lit their senior year, despite the workload.
2:13 p.m. - Senior Christian Hoagland works on his latest piece in his AP Sculpture class. “For this project I’m using lots of different materials to create a big cherry,” Hoagland said. Hoagland plans to shape the piece to look like a cherry then spray paint it red.
2:35 p.m - Sophomores Alaina Bakken and Kayla Ybarra play a Spanish vocab ‘Battleship,’ in their Spanish 2 class. “[Playing Battleship] helps us remember how to change verbs to the past tense,” Ybarra said. The Spanish 2 classes are currently learning about conjugation.
2:40 p.m. - Junior Ben Buerge studies the primary causes of the Great Depression during his U.S. History class. “It is scary to imagine that the country was in such a terrible financial crisis less than a century ago,” Buerge said. Teachings of the Great Depression in history classes give students a deep understanding of economics and the culture in the early 20th Century.
3:28 p.m - Teacher Lori Schwendeman and the Environmental Club meet to discuss projects that the students plan to do. “We are trying to rejuvenate the club right now,” Schwendeman said. The students are currently trying to get more recycle bins next to trash cans and get compostable cardboard boxes to replace the plastic boxes at lunch.
3:45 p.m. - Senior Kalie Stenberg puts up members character drawings in the Penman's Syndicate meeting. “Today we’re learning about the importance of character design by drawing our own characters based on traits,” Stenberg says. “It’s important because a character’s personality can be portrayed a lot though the design of a character.” Penman's Syndicate members have been working on character development and are working to apply it to their writing.
5:40 p.m. - Junior Cassidy Christian smiles for a photo at the Speech and Debate tournament Friday. “I have been in Speech and Debate for three years,” Christian said. “My favorite event is POI (Program Oral Interp) because it's a combination of all the speech events.” The Speech and Debate team has tournaments every weekend and works endlessly to achieve it's goals.
6:13 p.m. - Senior Vikki Wong practices her Original Oratory before her first round at a Speech and Debate tournament. “It's not easy to take a stand when you know people will disagree with you,” Wong said. “The most important thing is they you know why you believe what you believe.” This is Wong’s last year with NSDA (National Speech & Debate Association) and she plans on making it her best year.
6:15 p.m. - The tech crew of "Here We Come Gathering" (a play produced by Stage Flight Theatre) come together for a group photo. “I feel like tech is very important to a show because you have the acting portion of it, but without lights, sound, costumes, makeup, or props the show wouldn’t be pulled together. It would just be actors on a stage,” said junior Caitlin Story. "Here We Come Gathering" was the first play Stage Flight Theatre produced this year.
8:40 p.m. - Sophomores Maddy Holmes, Maya Wilkinson, Alaina Bakken, and Jade Bakken watch Stage Flight Theater's play, “Here We Come Gathering.” “I decided to come because I helped make the set and I wanted to come see it in person,” Holmes said. The comedic play showcased a family who has just moved into a house and their furniture doesn’t arrive when they do.
