2022 Summer Term Newsletter

As we draw this school year to a close, I want to thank you for your continued support in making our school the fantastic place it is for our children to thrive.

This year has again brought many challenges, however, this last term it has been really fantastic to reintroduce all those usual activities that we have previously taken for granted. It was wonderful to have so many of you in school for our 'Everyone's Welcome' open morning, as well as seeing so many people at school to celebrate the summer fair, sports day and the KS2 school production.

The end of a year often brings some change and not only are we wishing our Year 6's fairwell as we look forward to watching them continue to flourish on their own personal journeys, but we have some goodbyes to say to staff too.

Miss Yeomans (in Reception class) is leaving us this term. It is time for her to spread her wings and begin on the next step of her own personal journey. We will miss her tremendously, she has been a huge part of school (and the reception class) for the last 4 years. Thank you Miss Yeomans, we will miss you - but I know you have some exciting things in store, and maybe we will see you again soon!!

Mrs Smith who has been supporting in school for the last 2 years, is also taking time to continue on her own career path. Thank you Mrs Smith for all your hard work and good luck!

I would just like to thank all of our St Margaret's community for your support and also to say have a wonderful summer.

Enjoy the rest of the newsletter which shares just some snippets of what has been happening in school this term.

Trips

This term has been filled with several trips, Year 1 had a fabulous time at Ash End farm, Y2 visited Twycross Zoo, Y3 enjoyed Conkers, Reception went on a Gruffalo hunt at Beaumanor, Y4 went to the Birmingham Resorts World to perform at Young Voices, Y5 went to Fosse Meadows and Y6 to Drayton Manor. The children were fabulous and were brilliant ambassadors for St Margaret's.

If you would like to see some more pictures from their trips, please look on Twitter. We have a new twitter handle @StMargaretsCEP2. Please do take a look.

Year 5 have been using their Oracy skills over the past half term, researching and then debating various issues important to them. It was amazing to see how intense their debates were and how much passion they put into their work!

Young Voices

Year 4 had the most fantastic time at the Birmingham Resorts World in May, where they performed with approximately 5000 other children. We had the best time and it was a fabulous experience for everyone involved. We had a great time performing for our families in the evening.

Linking Project

Did you know that at St Margaret's we link with different schools in the city to give the children from the city and our village opportunities to link and see how different the areas we all live in are?

In June, Year 3 welcomed Linden Primary School to St Margaret's. Throughout the year they have communicated via zoom, sending letters and art work to each other. In June Linden Primary visited St Margaret's where they had a team building day. It was wonderful to watch as the children met face to face for the first time, yet recognised each other from communications and made friends quickly. They even appeared on East Midlands today.

YEAR 6

It seems only right during this last newsletter to dedicate part of it to our Year 6's. We are so incredibly proud of them and their journey through primary school. Not only are they the most wonderful group of children with fabulous attitudes to learning, but they also demonstrate those extra virtues that we talk about so often as part of our schools vision 'the roots to grow and the wings to fly'. They are real advocates for how we can make small changes to make our world a better place. From being asked to visit Downing Street to talk to the Prime Minister about the changes we can make help with climate change, to fundraising for charities close to the hearts of our school community. They are truly a special bunch!

Here are some pictures of the things they have been up to this term!

Service Week

During service week the children spent time cleaning and gardening at Kings Lodge. They went into Nuneaton to 'spread joy'. They spent time litter picking around Stoke Golding and gardening at Churches in Hinckley. They also spent time packing food packages for Feed the Hungry.

They invited many people from the community to the Kings Lodge where they all baked cakes, prepared drinks and performed for their audience. They delivered magic tricks, learnt the art of discussion, sang and danced. A wonderful experience for all!

Pilgrimage

The Year 6 children also went on a pilgrimage walk in Leicester. They spent time reflecting on their time during primary school, considering what they have learnt over time and finishing by making promises about what they want from themselves in the future.

Bikeability

Also following SATs week, the children had a week of 'bike ability'. During this week the children learn the skills they need to ride their bike on the road. This week we had some children which learnt to ride their bikes for the first time and they felt a real sense of achievement!

And of course - this year we welcomed back our end of Year 6 production where the children performed 'Robin and the Sherwood Hoodies.' Just brilliant!

It has been fabulous to have so many things happening in school again and we can't wait to have you all in school for more fun (and learning) next year!

PTA News

Well, what a year it has been! After two years of Covid-related setbacks the PTA have been delighted to be able to get back to hosting more in person events for the children, their families and wider community to enjoy over the last school year. When we look back, we can’t quite believe how much there has been packed into three terms!

We don’t know about you but we have quite a few highlights from the last few weeks

  • St Margaret’s first ever Krispy Kreme sale!
  • The school disco
  • The school parade
  • The Summer Fair
  • The Year 6’s doing a spectacular job running the games on the playground
  • Mr Clafferty’s cross bar challenge
  • Soaking Mr Newark and Mr Watson in the stocks! (Well done to both of them for being such superb sports and bringing some extra fun to the fair!)

Special thanks needs to go to all of the wonderful St. Margaret’s staff and volunteers who helped with setting up, clearing away and running the stalls. From all the PTA team, your support was very much appreciated. And, of course to all our amazing children, families and the wider community who have supported and attended these events and made them a success. A huge thank you from all of us. We couldn’t do it without you. We truly hope that these have been opportunities for our children to make wonderful memories with their families and friends as well as raising vital funds to buy resources and equipment to support their learning in school.

This year, your support and generosity has enabled us to:

  • Subsidise transport costs for school trips (£200 per year group)
  • Purchase subscriptions for learning resources for the children to use in school
  • Purchase a new interactive white board to for one of the classrooms
  • Work towards financing new IT equipment for the children to use in school

If you have any ideas, skills or a bit of spare time which you could spare to help us plan future events or if you would like to join our friendly team we would love to hear from you.

In the meantime, we wish you a marvellous Summer Holidays!
