This image is created by Justin Bettman. It is very similar to Gregor Crewdson’s work. I imagine this image would have been created with the assistance of many other people. Much like a movie set, large lighting set ups and lots of planning. There is a lot going on in this image, we have the lighting inside the car, the lighting on the buildings, the natural light from the sky and artificial lighting, lighting the car and the models. The artificial lighting pushes the image to look cinematic and surreal.

Image by Vlad Mitrichev. This image is less busy than the previous image. We have the lighting from inside the car, the lighting from the sky and lighting shining on the front of the car.

This image was taken by Noel Kerns. Noel Kerns has created many similar images to this, using abandoned buildings and creating an eerie atmosphere. He has placed artificial lighting inside the building. The long exposure has captured the stars in the sky. His photos have a cinematic feel to them.

Image by Daniel Mercedante. This is taken from a series called “Rainbow Road’ Shot on an HASSELBLAD X1D-50C, a digital medium camera, this photographer was able to capture some amazing image. The image was created by ‘attaching household LED lights with strips of colored gels onto a broom’, he then would run through the frame with the broom and the long exposure would capture the lights and not him.

This is an image shot by Gregory Crewdson. Many of his images are similar to this, giving us shots of a suburbia with an uncomfortable eerie atmosphere. To capture these shots, he set up his images with a large set, much like a movie set. Lots of planning and organising went into capturing the final images. Many of the houses you see in this series are actually on a set. I would image this image is the same, a make window to peer through to the outside. A large lighting rig would have been set up to gaze down onto the model.
