Leading at Manchester

The aim of Leading at Manchester is to build the leadership capability of established managers and individual contributors to inspire, influence and develop others to deliver high performance within their area of responsibility.

This 6-month programme is for experienced managers and senior specialists looking to develop their leadership capability in their role at University of Manchester. The audience for this programme may include, but not be limited to:

  • Academics, researchers, and senior professionals required to influence and deliver results through others; and
  • Established managers who lead academics, senior technical professionals and other managers.

Managing at Manchester

The aim of Managing at Manchester is to develop the capability and confidence of first line managers or people new to management, to be able to direct, engage and support individuals and teams to deliver results.

This 6-month programme is for any staff member currently in or likely to be appointed to a people management role and with limited previous management development. This may include individuals required to manage people without formal line management responsibility.

This programme run is approved by the Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM)

Managing at Manchester for Researchers

Managing at Manchester for Researchers sits alongside the University of Manchester's suite of leadership and management programmes to enable the research community to develop management knowledge and skills in their current role or for a future career.

Managing at Manchester for Researchers is aimed at colleagues on a research contract who are line managing in their current role or who wish to do so in the future either inside or outside academia. The programme runs over a six month period and is approved by the Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM).

Supervising at Manchester

The aim of Supervising at Manchester is to develop the capability and confidence of supervisors or people new to supervising, to be able to support, connect and drive individuals and teams to deliver results.

This 12-month programme is for any staff member currently in or likely to be appointed to a supervisory position and with limited previous management development. The programme helps you to improve your confidence in a range of supervisory skills, meet people in similar roles through facilitated action learning groups, share experiences and learn how to best manage a variety of situations.

Women into Leadership

A programme specifically aimed at women in leadership roles or women in management roles who are aspiring into leadership roles.

The programme does not replace but complements the other programmes, and focussed on addressing the specific challenges and barriers women can face when accessing and working in senior roles.

The programme is delivered over four, half day workshops and one group coaching session, and covers strategies for building confidence, managing imposter syndrome, and navigating power and organisational politics.
