Embracing Our Growth and Expanding Opportunities
Since the refurbishment of the outdoor courts and construction of our two indoor courts in 2016, The City of Peterborough Tennis Club has grown from 25 members to over 600 members, with 300 players receiving weekly coaching. As part of our ongoing commitment to our members, local community and our vision, we are excited to announce a new project: the addition of an extra indoor tennis court.
Our Goal: Enhanced Tennis Experience for All Members
We understand that more indoor courts and greater indoor court availability are top priorities for our members. By adding an extra court, we will provide more opportunities for both social and competitive play, ensuring a better tennis experience for everyone.
From 1st January 2022 to 31st December 2022 the indoor courts had 4168 bookings
In 2021's & 2022's members surveys more indoor courts/more indoor court availability was the number one priority for members
The indoor courts are open 363 days of the year from 7am-10pm!
Partnering with AELTC & LTA
We are grateful to have been nominated by LTA East Region to receive a double-skin air dome donated by The All England Lawn Tennis Club. This state-of-the-art dome, with a 25-year lifespan, will provide year-round indoor play and will feature Plexipave Acrylic surface similar to those used at the US and Australian Opens.
The Dome
The dome consists of several layers of fabric. The outer layer or membrane is manufactured using architectural grade vinyl coated polyester fabric, and the pattern used to create the dome is specific to every project to create the unique shape that's needed. This layer’s purpose is strength, with the seams welded (link) to create higher strength than even the fabric itself.
The interior layer is a liner, which improves thermal and acoustic qualities of the dome. An additional insulation layer lies between the outer structural fabric and the inner liner fabric to maximise energy efficiency. This layer keeps the dome cool or warm despite the weather outside.
Inside the Dome
The dome is state of the art. There will be no glare in the building with the lights pointing upwards. The AELTC dome has a lights and lighting design which produces around 750 lux evenly distributed across the playing surface to meet the requirements of professional tennis tournaments . No light should leak with the dome being double skinned. The dome is inflated by fans located at the side therefore there should be no draft for the players.
Supporting the Project Financially
Our budget for this project is £195,000, which includes court laying, constructing a ring beam, a backup diesel generator, installation costs, planning fees, and contingencies. We aim to fundraise at least £100,000 to fund the project and then reduce the loan needed from the LTA. This money will be raised through grants, member donations, sponsorships and social fundraisers. With your support, we can make this project a reality and continue to enhance our club's facilities.
WHAT WE NEED YOU TO DO
We would love our members with expertise in fundraising or other relevant areas to get involved and share their knowledge. Once planning permission is granted, we will host a launch party to kick off our fundraising campaign.
Together, we can create a vibrant, progressive, and sustainable tennis club that provides enjoyable year-round playing opportunities for all members. We appreciate your support and enthusiasm for this new project, which will help drive growth in tennis participation in Peterborough and the surrounding area.
