#Purdue at the #NCAAGolf Championships Purdue is making its 28th appearance on college golf's biggest stage

Under the watchful eye of head coach Rob Bradley, Purdue has reached the NCAA Championships in two of his first three years. Since 2013, Purdue and Illinois are the only Big Ten teams to appear in the NCAA Championships.
In 37 events during the Bradley era, Purdue has placed in the top five in 23 of them. In the six full previous years (2007-08 to 2012-13), Purdue had 25 top-five finishes in 72 events played.

This past fall, Purdue recorded five straight top-four finishes, the longest streak of top-four finishes for the program since having eight straight in 1970-71.

Bradley is the first coach in school history to make three straight NCAA appearances to start his career.

There have been 20 performances of 65 or better by a Purdue individual in school history. Eight of them have come during the last three years.

There have been 13, 18-hole team performances of 277 or better in school history. Six of them have come under Bradley, including the best score in school history (-22; 266 in Bridgestone Golf Collegiate) set earlier this year.

The two-best, 54-hole scores in school history have come this year (830 in the Windon Memorial Classic; 834 in the Bridgestone Golf Collegiate).

TEAM NOTES

Purdue’s counting team has recorded 67 rounds (of 172 rounds) at or under par, shooting at or under par in 39.0 percent of its rounds.

Of Purdue’s 35 team rounds this year, a school-record 13 of them have been even par or better (37.1 percent).

Since the 1980-81 season, Purdue has had five events where every team score was at even-par or better. Three of them (Windon Memorial Classic; Bridgestone Golf Collegiate, Boilermaker Invitational) have been this year. Another came under Rob Bradley in the 2014 USF Invitational.

All five of Purdue’s regulars have recorded rounds of 67 or better this year.

Purdue individuals have recorded 11 top-five finishes and 22 top-10 finishes this year. Last year’s squad recorded just three top-five finishes and nine top-10 placings.

Purdue has produced 23 rounds in the 60s. Last year’s team recorded 14 rounds in the 60s.

All nine members of the Purdue men’s golf team own a cumulative GPA better than 3.00.

Purdue is the second-most Northern school competing in this year’s NCAA Championships field. Only three teams above the 40-degree latitude line reached this year’s NCAA Championships.

Purdue is one of four teams above the 40-degree latitude line to advance to two of the last three NCAA Championships (Illinois - 3; Oregon - 3; Purdue - 2; Washington - 2).

Among teams above the 40-degree latitude line, Purdue's 28 appearances are the third most in NCAA history (Ohio State - 46; BYU - 30).

} Purdue was one of six teams not seeded in the top five to reach the NCAA Championships.

} Over the last three years, Purdue, Houston, TCU and Kentucky are the only teams in the country that has been seeded sixth or lower to make at least two NCAA Championship appearances.

Current Purdue players own four of the top-12 single-season stroke averages in school history.

FERNANDO BARCO

Ranks 10th on the Purdue single-season stroke average list (73.00) ... named Big Ten Golfer of the Week on April 13 after finishing second at the Hoosier Collegiate,

Placed T-10th and T-14th (2015) at his two NCAA Regionals.

Owns a 69.00 stroke average in the final round of NCAA play.

Played last 14 holes at Regionals in 2-under par.

Leads the team in spring scoring average (72.60).

Ranks second on the team with six rounds in the 60s.

Over his last four tournaments, Barco has finished T-12th, T-2nd, T-10th, T-17th, T-10th.

Also posted top-10 finishes at the Northern Intercollegiate (T-9th) and Windon Memorial Classic (T-3rd).

Missed qualifying for The Masters by two shots, finishing T-3rd in the Latin America Amateur Championship in January.

Also competed in the U.S. Amateur Championship outside Chicago last August and placed 12th in the Pan-Am Games.

Was the first alternate out of U.S. Open local qualifying at Wolf Run GC outside of Indianapolis.

Was ranked as high as No. 12 nationally earlier this year ... has competed in every tournament since his arrival in fall 2013 ... won the Arkansas State Golf Association (ASGA) Amateur crown in August ... an outstanding student, has been named Academic All-Big Ten ... his 14 top-10 finishes are tied for the fourth most in school history ... owns best career average in school history (72.72).

BRIAN CARLSON

Named second-team All-Big Ten.

Two-time winner of Big Ten Golfer of the Week (Sept. 30, March 10).

Won first career medalist honor after winning the Windon Memorial Classic in late September.

Leads team with four top-five finishes (2nd - Desert Mountain; 3rd - Bridgestone Golf Collegiate; T-3rd - Crooked Stick Intercollegiate).

Is a combined 4-over par in his last 10 tournaments (72.00 avg.).

1-of-4 players in school history with two rounds of 65 or better (Eoff, Adam Schenk, Barco) ... ranks 10th on the single-season stroke average list (72.77).

Cut off almost 2.50 strokes per round from his freshman year to his sophomore yea.

Advanced out of U.S. Open local qualifying.

STUART MACDONALD

Played in his 100th career round at the NCAA Regionals (final round).

Owns a pair of top-five finishes this year (T-3rd at Windon Memorial; T-5th at Boilermaker Invitational).

Tied for the team lead in birdies (117).

After opening-round 88, played last two NCAA Regional rounds in 8-over par.

Has taken off under head coach Rob Bradley and as a member of the counting team, averaging 74.12 strokes per round in 29 events.

Named Big Ten Golfer of the Week during the 2014-15 season following the Puerto Rico Classic.

Competed in last year’s U.S. Amateur Championship.

Also placed second at the British Columbia Amateur Championship and is a member of the Canadian National Team.

JARLE VOLDEN

Has solidified Purdue’s fifth position, showing improvement all season long.

Was T-7th after two rounds at the NCAA Regionals (+4) and ranked third in field in pars (39).

Owns a pair of top-20 finishes (T-18th at both the Northern Intercollegiate and Hoosier Collegiate).

Also finished tied for 22nd at the Boilermaker Invitational.

His 65 in the Bridgestone Golf Collegiate tied for the best 18-hole score by a Purdue freshman in school history.

Finished 12th at the prestigious Doral Jr. Publix and eighth at the Orange Bowl Junior as a high school junior.
