Jeff Bezos was born on January 12, 1964 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Bezos's mother, Jacklyn Gise Jorgensen, was a teenager when she had him with his biological father, Ted Jorgensen. They were married less than a year. When Jeff was four years old, she remarried a Cuban immigrant named Mike Bezos. When Jeff became a teenager, they moved to Miami Florida where he would graduate as the Valedictorian of his high school.
After high school, Jeff Bezos was accepted to Princeton University, and there he met his wife, Mackenzie. They have four children together.
After graduating from Princeton, he went to work on Wall Street. In 1990 he became the youngest senior vice president at the investment firm D. E. Shaw. Four years later he quit that job and moved to Seattle to open Amazon.com. It started out as an online book store, which was named after the river in South America.
What is so amazing about his success story is that he took the risk in leaving a stable and high paying job to start his own business, which started out in his garage with only a few employees.
Amazon.com started off selling books across countries and in 45 different regions. Then Bezos started expanding its products to CDs, movies and other small electronics. Soon it was selling clothing, shoes, toys, etc. Bezos kept diversifying the kind of product he was selling. This caused the business to jump yearly sales from $510,000 in 1995 to over $17 billion in 2011.
Now you'll find that Bezos is one of the most successful business men. Amazon is the largest retailer in the world and they do not own a single store. However, they do have warehouses where his employees package items and ship them out if they are not sold by a separate member who pays fees for selling their own merchandise.
This goes hand and hand with Management Theory when he talks about the direct affect that a positive work environment and a happy worker has with the way they commit to working on themselves as a general person and also in the work field.
A couple of Bezos's many accomplishments/good deeds was donating $15 million to the Princeton brain research Program and $10 million to the Museum of History and Industry to establish a 'Center for Innovation.'
