comic books are all in all magazines ― (technically considered magazines) which consist of various strips of illustrations which display a series of comics.

a comic book artist is an individual who works within the comics medium or graphic novel industry. they work on comic strips, comic books and graphic related illustrations in general. each illustrator has their own style when it comes to creating comic books/graphic novels.

SALARY
the salary is not exactly stable for comic book artists, but during 2010, comic book artists would (and still) earn about 100 dollars per page. the career in general falls beneath the illustration field, so the estimation is roughly along the lines of $53,080 or above if experienced by years or successful.
DAY TO DAY ACTIVITIES

declan shalvey, the artist/illustrator of marvel’s “Moon Knight”, keeps a somewhat tight schedule intact while also working overtime on long days in general. a page usually takes him about seventeen full hours and getting a day off is exceedingly hard with the hectic circumstances of his everyday life and schedule. he spends a lot of time bringing good vibes into his life, nevertheless, so in conclusion, it's not too bad.
the writer/illustrator of the graphic novel, “Kinski”, gabriel hardman, finds his schedule to be rather sophisticated as well.
“i'd say 20 percent of my time is spent finding photo research for art. not photos to trace though. it’s mostly research on locations and props to get the most authentic or interesting look possible. i like the comics i draw to be grounded and credible and research is a big part of that.”
POST SECONDARY OPTIONS
the post secondary options within the career are the following: college or professional art school coursework. with these options, you're required to accumulate a bachelor's degree and need to have drawing, illustration, fine art, studio art, art and design knowledge as well. without aforementioned options, it'll be extremely hard to pursue this career.
ADDITIONAL CAREER REQUIREMENTS
first and foremost, you need to acquire the following four career paths, such as: degree level, degree field, experience, and key skills. within the degree level, you're without a doubt, supposed to receive the bachelor's degree. as for the degree field, you're supposed to be a major in various art courses, more specifically visual arts. experience like honing artistic skills, practice and training, while also taking art classes is very mandatory to pursue this skill. and last but not least, key skills; artistic ability, creativity, manual dexterity, interpersonal skills, proficient in photoshop, illustrator, quark xpress and indesign.

step one: complete formal training.
- to complete formal training, you need to choose a university/college/program which can help provide aspiring training or anything along the dotted lines. but of course, the school or university needs to give you a bachelor's degree in order for you to pursue said career. so in conclusion, a wise choice needs to be made in regards to where the study will take place.
step two: gain experience.
- considering the field is with the broader field of art, gaining experience while in school will help in the end, astonishingly. a few opportunities which can help include internship programs which provide wide ranges of experience regarding your course.
step three: apply for an entry level position.
- of course, after doing your studies in university or college, you won't be able to get your first job to be within the field you studied in, but it will help you develop a sense of design and will most likely sharpen visual design experience and creative experience all at once. it's best to join a professional association considering you'll get more out of it then.
