First black child to attend all white school: Ruby Bridges
Personal Life~
Ruby bridges was born september 8,1954.She grew up working on a farm land in TylerTown Mississippi.At the age of 6 ruby and her parents move to New Orleans hoping for a better life .When Ruby went to her new school they assigned her to take a special test to begin going to and all white school and she pasted.Ruby is still alive today at the age of 62 with a husband (Malcolm Hall) married in 1984 with three sons (Craig,Christopher,and Sean Hall).She is know for being the first black child to attend an all white school (William Frantz School).
William Frantz School~
William Frantz School was an all white school in Pauline St,New Orleans. During the time of 1960 William frantz had lots of guards and police officers surrounding the school making sure that no black people came in contact.When Ruby passed the test the had no choice but to let her in but she was always guarded everywhere she went while she was in school.William Frantz is now called Akili Academy still remaining in New Orleans and allow all races to attend.
Education~
In 1960 while Ruby went to William frantz she was only able had one teacher.She attended an all black school for kindergarten then transferred to an integrated school for first through eighth grade.In high school she went to anoher integrated school called Francis T. Nicholls High School.She completed her graduation from Kansas City Business School in travel and tourism.
Legacy~
The lesson Ruby Bridges wanted people to learn from her was it doesn't matter what skin color you are everyone should have equal rights. Quote from ruby was "Racism is a grown-up disease and we should stop using out kids to spread it."There is a museum in Washington D.C. dedicated to Ruby Bridges, and other women that made an impact in history and in our life's.Ruby was specifically known for known for being the first black child to desegregate the all-white William Frantz Elementary School in Louisiana during the New Orleans school desegregation crisis in 1960.
