This Week in Newberg Nation April 25, 2021

Reminders for Hybrid Students

It was such a fun week welcoming Hybrid students back to campus! As we continue throughout the rest of the 4th Quarter, we wanted to share a few reminders with students. Students who are attending in person should bring the following items :

  • Chromebook, fully charged (or other laptop if you use your own)
  • Chromebook charger
  • One mask to wear, and one extra if available (we have masks for students who may need them)
  • Backpack
  • Basic supplies like notebook paper, pens and pencils
  • Filled Water Bottle (drinking fountains are not available)

Reminder that all students must be wearing a mask at all time on campus, both indoors and outdoors, as well as on the bus.

Also, reminder that Breakfast and Lunch is available for students at stations set up in the Commons and at main exits each day.

Daily Schedule

Although students only attend classes two days per week, it is important to understand that the other days they are not attending classes are still school days. Teachers will be assigning work for students to complete on their own, outside of class time, which can be done on the days that they do not have scheduled classes.

OSU Virtual Family Day: Oregon State University is hosting an upcoming Virtual Family Day, hosted by the OSU Juntos Program. This biennial event, which is conducted in Spanish, is designed to bring statewide students and their families to Oregon State to engage in college and career showcase workshops, as well as connect with educational resources, social groups, programs, financial aid, and other opportunities. The driving goal behind Family Day is to give families a snapshot of OSU College life and build upon the OSU Juntos Program tradition of offering community-based, culturally-relevant preparation and educational pathways. This year, they made the decision to recreate this event in a virtual format, which will feature:

  • OSU College Workshops
  • Community College Workshops
  • Financial Aid and Scholarship Session
  • Panels and Presentations
  • Guided Virtual Campus Tour
  • Videos, College Access Resources, Tools, and More
  • Virtual Visit from Benny Beaver

An invite is attached, and here is a short video about the event. Anyone is welcome to attend! Lunch vouchers (visa gift cards) will be provided to all family attendees. This event is free, but requires registration prior to May 5: https://beav.es/juntos2021.

Decision Day: May 1st is the day that many colleges require admitted students to confirm they will be attending their college. It is also the start of our month-long celebration of our NHS seniors' post high school plans!

Seniors can join in the celebration by filling out the Decision Day survey that was emailed to their school email to let us know what their after high school plans are, whether they are college, military, work, or otherwise.

Seniors should fill out this form by May 2nd, or as soon as they have made their plans, and we will include seniors in the celebrations throughout May!

Summer Paid Pre-Apprenticeship Program through Chemeketa. Find more information and the application HERE. Application Deadline: April 30th.

There is still time to apply for college and financial aid. Oregon Goes To College is teaming up with Oregon community colleges to support 12th graders who are still making their plans for continuing their education next fall. Colleges will offer virtual activities April 19-30 to help students explore their options, apply for admission, complete their FAFSA or ORSAA, and submit their Oregon Promise application. You can help spread the word by sharing social media posts and e-mailing or texting students & families. Find templates in the Media Kit for Educators on the Spring Into Action website: oregongoestocollege.org/spring. Oregon Goes To College is a statewide initiative of Oregon GEAR UP.

SAFE Oregon Tip Line

Many districts across the State have adopted SAFE Oregon as their primary tip line. This summer, the Newberg School District has made it the primary source for reporting any issues that need the attention of the school. Tips can be sent by phone, text, via the web or through an app. At the high school, students have received this information in their class assemblies and school-wide safety videos. Encourage your student to download the app and/or put the number into their phone. If you would like more information regarding the tip line, please visit SAFEOregon.com.
