Three Artists

Nick McMillen

Nick works predominantly in charcoal. It is a material born of the very subjects he draws. A simple and natural substance it has been used by humans for millennia.

It is this connection to our history and its organic purity that has drawn him to it. Nick creates portraits that celebrate his subjects by using tone and texture to build up form.

Through his work Nick would like to bring more thought and focus to the beauty and wonder of the natural world, and with it the need for more care of our environment.

“Paying attention is a form of reciprocity with the living world, receiving the gifts with open eyes and open hearts.” Robin Wall Kimmerer

Heather Chuter

Heather is a portrait photographer by trade. Normally adept at creating beautiful images through her unique skill of capturing the very essence of people, Heather has recently turned her lens towards nature.

Humbled by the challenge of trying to capture the essence of such a vast and majestic subject, she is drawn by the thought that even the most familiar of natural environments is steeped in history and magical energy. Heather has used photography, multiple exposure techniques and digital layering to try and capture that unexplained energy that nature casts on those who seek it.

Through her images, Heather would like to encourage you to look again at the natural world around you and lose yourself in wonder.

Mollie McMillen

Mollie’s infatuation with weaving started in the woods, with simple vessels woven with tree barks.

Basketry is as ancient as humans have been creative with their hands and continues to be an endless exploration in plant materials and technique. These fathomless possibilities of the plant materials growing around her home are what really inspire Mollie’s work. Her year being punctuated by seasonal, harvesting of bark, plant fibres and willow and through this process nurtures relationships with the land and the community alike.
