GPE Challengers eTwinning project

A group of creative, hardworking 7th grade students from Primary School Sesvetski Kraljevec took part in a wonderful eTwinning project called GPE Challengers under the mentorship of their English teacher Ms Damjanović.

The project lasted from September 2019 till June 2020.

The project's acronym GPE stands for good practices in English teaching and learning and it was about sharing ideas and good practices in developing the four language skills: listening, reading, writing and speaking. It was also about getting to know peers from other European countries and communicate about our lifestyles, culture and customs..

The students' names:

Lana Šekerija

Tara Hunić

Tereza Šarić

Roko Kuharić

Sara Dizdarević

Antonio Puškarić

Jana Ferenčak

Daria Zovko

Paula Miličević

Juraj Domitrović

Sara Matijašić

Maja Jelečki

One of the first tasks was to make a poster for the project. We decided to make an interactive poster using Glogster. Click on the button to check it out!

This is the meme from the poster that we made for the project.

Then it was time to work on the project logo. Although our logo didn't win, we had a lot of fun making it. We made an image representing the four skills; our mascot had a microphone and a set of headphones and a notebook representing reading and writing,

We made a video to present our school.

We went on a field trip to show our hometown to our partners.

After the teachers introdouced themselves, it was time for students to do the same. They've introdouced themselves on Flipgrid. Here are Lana's and Sara's video.

CHALLENGE #1 - READING

The first challenge was to read at cultural places in our cities. We chose to read poems by two of the most famous Croatian poets in front of their statues in Zagreb, Here are the poems.

Our next task was to read about our partner countries and their flags and make an interactive game. We made a Kahoot. You can play it by clicking on the button below.

CHALLENGE #2 - LISTENING

To practice listening we used a fun app called Lyricstraining and the song selected by the partners was Count on me by Bruno Mars but we didn't stop there, We continued practising with our favourite songs.

The next listening task was to find some really hard to pronounce English words and make a shared Quizlet to practice listening.

We were challenged to a Spelling Bee by a Turkish art school and we enjoyed making new friends immensely while learning by challenging each others.

NEW YEAR'S WEBINAR

We exchanged New Year cards and wishes with our partner school from Turkey.

CHALLENGE #3 - SPEAKING

Our speaking challenge was a lot of fun, We made a podcast using the Anchor app with our partners from Turkey, Romania and Lithuania. Our podcast's name is Mr. Universe and it's about a funny Mr. Universe competition. We were responsible for the trailer and the first part. Lana recorded the trailer, Antonio was Mr. Universe and Tereza was the host of the show. Click on the button to hear the whole podcast.

Another speaking challenge was Singing in our partner's languages. This was the most challenging task for us.

The speaking challenge that we enjoyed the most was to speak English incessantly during class. It turned into quite a competition among the seventhgraders. And here are some of the results:

As part of the project we recorded a Safer Internet Day video message against cyber-bullying.

CHALLENGE #4 - WRITING

During January we participated in live chats with our friends from other countries. We talked about the food we liked, our pets, favourite music stars and compared our school systems.

Then we joined our project's Edmodo class where we continued to write to our new friends.

The next writing challenge was the Storyjumper challenge. This was a teacher-student task and the student was Lana Šekerija. Click on the button and read our pages in this wonderful book!

One of our last tasks was to prepare a lapbook. We could use whatever topic we wanted but the real challenge was keeping up with the size requirements (10 x 10 cm). We chose to write about Australia.

The challenge that we enjoyed the most was the RAP challenge. Each school was challenged to sing another school's rap lyrics and then had to come up with their own lyrics to challenge the next school. The Betygala Maironis gymnasium from Lithuania challenged us.

We wrote these rap lyrics to challenge Adina's students;

G-P-E, SAY G-P-E

LISTEN TO THE BEAT

BAYBE, IT'S YOU AND ME

WE'RE THE COOL E-TWINNERS

AND WE ARE THE WINNERS

THIS PROJECT IS SO BREEZY

AND LEARNING ENGLISH IS EASY

WE LOVE OUR NEW FRIENDS

IT'S SAD IT HAS TO END

G-P-E, G-P-E

BAYBE, IT'S YOU AND ME

WE'RE THE COOL E-TWINNERS

AND WE ARE THE WINNERS!

We've had a wonderful time being a part of this project. It was great meeting all of you and sharing this beautiful experience. We will always remember this school year and this amazing project. All the best to all of you. Until another project....
