Al Jisr - The Bridge Top Photos is a monthly photojournalism competition organized by Al Jisr Connect project, a collaboration among students from the University of Arizona and four public universities in Yemen: University of Aden, Hadramout University, Taiz University, and the University of Saba Region.
Students from both countries have collaborated by sharing their photos each month from February 2023 through May 2023.
In April, students from Yemen and the U.S. created several photo series that show how people in their cities, towns and villages spend their time outdoors. Students from both countries captured photo stories that showed life in their city, from spending time at local markets to celebrating special occasions, to socializing with friends and family, and more.
We are sharing the top photos for April.

Residents and others visit the crowded local market in Crater City on April 13, 2023, where they buy new clothes and candy for Eid in the last days of Ramadan. Many people also open carts to sell anything they want, largely goods sold only during Ramadan as it is a busy time of the year. Crater, commonly used by residents, is the unofficial name of the market and the Sirah district in Aden, Yemen.
