R Markdown for the Humanities -A Practical Intro to Reproducible Writing Wednesday 28 May, 1-5pm

Are you looking for a more efficient way to integrate writing, data, and analysis in your research?

This hands-on methods@manchester staff training workshop introduces R Markdown, a powerful tool for academics that enables seamless integration of text, code, and citations into dynamic, reproducible documents.

Designed for staff in the Arts and Humanities, this session will guide participants through the basics of R and RStudio, demonstrate how R Markdown can be used for research and publication, and provide practical tips for incorporating it into academic workflows. No prior experience with R is required.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the basic structure and functionality of R and RStudio;
  • Use R Markdown to create structured, dynamic research documents (including presentation slides, word documents and pdfs);
  • Format text, integrate citations, and incorporate visual elements;
  • Export documents to multiple formats (PDF, Word, HTML);
  • Apply reproducible research principles to academic writing.

Dr. Giulia Grisot is a lecturer in Digital Humanities, part of the Centre for Digital Humanities, Cultures and Media based in the School of Arts, Language and Cultures.

Participants are encouraged to install R and RStudio before the workshop (installation instructions provided upon registration), but we will also cover setup during the session.
