Aikotaan Beats second issue | august 2025

Move Over IPL, Here Comes the APL! 🏏🥏💥

If you’ve cheered for the Indian Premier League (IPL) with its auctions, star players, and nail-biting finishes - imagine a homegrown version right here in Aikotaan. That’s exactly what the Aikotaan Premier League (APL) brings to life.

This year, four teams were created, owners were nominated, and just like the IPL, there was a player auction - with passion worth millions of dollars, and with pre-allocated tokens. Strategies were whispered, bids were made, and dream teams took shape.

On the big day, the ground transformed into a cricket carnival. Families lined the sidelines, cheering for their favorites. Two semi-finals kept everyone guessing, and the grand finale had the crowd on edge with every ball. Runs piled up, wickets tumbled, and when the final wicket fell, one team hoisted the APL trophy, but the celebrations belonged to everyone. Lunch, laughter, and loud cheers turned it into a festival of cricket and community.

The APL is built on a simple, solid yet inclusive weekend system: players are polled, ground is reserved, and teams are formed. A full cricket kit, a ready first aid box, and even a rulebook—written and updated by the players themselves—keep things fair and professional. Some days, bowlers dominate like Shami on a green track, keeping totals under 50. Other days, batsmen pile up runs like Kohli on a flat deck, pushing scores past 120. The best part? It’s the camaraderie - players supporting each other, sharing laughs, and building memories match after match. Victory is always celebrated, but defeat is never bitter. The losing team joins in the fun, often eager to flip the script in the very next match. Add hot coffee, light snacks, and shade on the sidelines, and you’ve got the recipe for a perfect weekend morning.

Players come to RSM from near and far - even from Yorba Linda. Ages range from 16-year-olds - playing with parental consent, sometimes alongside their dads - to veterans above 55.

It’s this rhythm of weekend cricket that brings the Aikotaan Sports Club to life - a place for laughter, playful banter, and the same thrill you felt hitting sixes in a "gully" cricket match as a kid. Every match is full of silly celebrations, “remember when?” moments, and grins that make you feel like that kid again.

So, ready to dust off your cricket bat and join the fun?

Mainak:

Hey everyone! 🏏 Huge cheers for Muhammad and his squad! We just wrapped the grand finale of our three-week cricket series - and what a finish! Muhammad, how does victory feel? 😄

Muhammad:

Oh, it was such a blast! The whole team pulled together, everyone chipped in, and honestly—it just made the win even sweeter.

Mainak:

Absolutely - it was all teamwork out there, and you guys kept your cool like pros under pressure! 🔥 Now, keeping this energy rolling, tell us how you first got involved with Aikotaan!

Muhammad:

I actually found out about Aikotaan through a colleague at work, Aditya. He told me about a friend who was part of the group and that they were playing cricket. I thought, ‘Hey, I’ve been playing cricket my whole life - high school, college - why not jump in and see what it’s all about?’ And that’s how I got started!

Mainak:

Okay, I’m super curious to know more about you - but hold up! First things first… how hyped are you for all the fun we’ve got going on? I’m talking donation drives, the big cricket tournament, and of course those weekend matches 🔥🏏

Muhammad:

Super hyped! 🔥 What I love about Aikotaan isn’t just cricket - it’s giving back 🙌. Add the picnics and celebrations 🎉, and it feels like one big family party. My wife joined last month and had a blast 😄. The vibe is unbeatable - sports + charity + family, all rolled into one!

Mainak:

Love that you both had a blast at the picnic - big thanks for the kind words, really means a lot 🙌. Now c’mon, drop the real stuff - who’s the person behind the cricket bat? 😏🔥

Muhammad:

Ha ha.. Of course. I was born in Pakistan, raised in Dubai, then I went on a little U.S. adventure—Tennessee, North Carolina, and finally crashed in California 😎✈️. Been a fun little journey! 😄

Mainak:

Whoa, that’s quite the ride! 😲✈️ Now don’t leave us hanging - hit us with a fun fact about you 😏🎉

Muhammad:

Fun fact - I minored in astronomy, so I’m totally into astrophotography 🌌✨. Just recently, I even won a work photo competition for a star trail shot I took at Big Bear 😎🏆! So you could say the stars are kinda my thing!

Mainak:

No way 😲 That’s seriously epic! You have to submit your entry for the annual Aikotaan magazine - we all need to see this starry masterpiece 📸🌌

Muhammad:

Absolutely! 😄 I’ll definitely share it with you.

Mainak:

Can’t wait to see it! 😏 But let's get back to earth, what’s your dream weekend look like?

Muhammad:

Definitely hanging out with my family but also squeezing in some cricket. 🏏 It’s my favorite way to bond, stay active, and dive into a passion I’ve had my whole life.

Mainak:

That’s awesome! 😎 And no kidding, you’re one of our most regular players. Alright, we’re almost done - time for a fun one: if you could have any superpower, what would you pick? Don’t hold out on us 😏⚡

Muhammad:

That’s a good one 😄 [chuckles] I’d go with invincibility. Totally my vibe - huge Lord of the Rings fan here 🧙‍♂️💪. Gives you that unstoppable power, so yeah, that’s my pick!

Mainak:

[Chuckles] Love that - one of my faves too! 😄 Alright, last one before we sign off - what’s one piece of advice for Aikotaan to make an even bigger splash?

Muhammad:

I’d say keep the quarterly events coming—sports, picnics, anything that gets everyone hanging out and bonding 😄. Missed the last tournament 😅, but another one like that? Count me in, I’m so there! 🏏🎉

Mainak: Got it! 🙌 I’ll pass it to the organizers. Thanks a ton Muhammad!
