Dear Bluejay Family,
Today I share some bittersweet news regarding two beloved members of our St. Cecilia family. This comes as each celebrates a personal milestone—graduating children, at different phases—and feels called to focus on the needs of their families in the next chapter of their lives. Mrs. Laura Umbricht has shared her intent to step away after this school year. With her youngest completing 8th grade, Laura now feels called to explore other ways to serve her family. As our “Director of First Impressions,” Laura has truly left her mark by warmly welcoming every visitor and supporting the operations of our school with grace and efficiency.
Mr. Scott Boudreaux has also shared his plans to retire from the role of Athletic Director at the end of this year. With his youngest graduating high school, it is time for family. A firm believer in leaving things better than he found them, Scott has undoubtedly fulfilled that mission during his many years with us. He has graciously worn many hats at St. Cecilia – Bluejay parent, Advisory Council member, landscaping and lawn care expert, coach, Assistant Athletic Director, and Athletic Director (I am certain I have missed a few) – many of them simultaneously. His dedication and care have left a lasting legacy on our school and community.
Both Laura and Scott have expressed their deep love for St. Cecilia, our students, and the greater school community. Their contributions—marked by joy, commitment, and heart—have touched countless lives. While it’s difficult to say goodbye, we are deeply grateful for the time we’ve shared and the many ways they have enriched our school. Both felt it important to share their decisions now to provide us ample time to find the right individuals to step into these roles.
Please join me in praying for Scott and Laura as they prepare for this transition and the blessings that lie ahead. In the coming months, we will have opportunities to celebrate their service and express our gratitude for all they have given to St. Cecilia.
Grace & Peace,
Erin B. Henry
Principal
“We give thanks to God always for all of you, remembering you in our prayers, unceasingly calling to mind your work of faith and labor of love and endurance in hope of our Lord Jesus Christ, before our God and Father....” - 1 Thessalonians 1:2-3
Handbook Guidelines
We are aware that several students have received smartwatches for Christmas. Please remember that wearable electronics, such as smartwatches, are not allowed at school per our handbook policy (p.19). Mrs. Terracina has already spoken to classes regarding this matter. Please help us with this matter.

Mass Music
PRO-LIFE ROSARY & MARCH
"You formed my inmost being; you knit me in my mother’s womb. I praise you, because I am wonderfully made; wonderful are your works!" Psalm 139:13-14
January 22 is the national Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children. On that day in 1973 our country legalized abortion. Even though on June 24, 2022, the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision overturned Roe v. Wade, numerous state and federal laws are still hostile to unborn children. Because of this, intentional prayer and advocacy is still very much needed.

HIS HOUSE
Quarter 2 HIS HOUSE Assembly
Our next HIS HOUSE Assembly will be held on Friday, January 24, 2025. Your child should be receiving information directly from his/her house about the “Olympics” theme and dress options. We encourage everyone to participate and show some spirit for their beloved house. Remember: Students are encouraged to wear house colored shirts with uniform bottoms. Any accessories or costume pieces should be added before the assembly and not worn to school and should relate to the theme. Due to the nature of the assembly and the need for space, please be reminded that the assembly is reserved for student body, faculty, and staff attendance only.
STUDENT FEATHER OF THE WEEK
BE HUMBLE- Realize it’s not all about you. Recognize your faults and seek forgiveness.
STUDENT FEATHER OF THE WEEK CHALLENGE
Do an act of kindness for someone that you hurt this week. Ex: write a note, draw a picture, play with them at recess, hold the door open for them, etc.
PARENT FEATHER OF THE WEEK
TRUST THE PROCESS- Focus on your child’s development in all areas. We all have your child’s best interests at heart. We are on the same team.
PARENT FEATHER OF THE WEEK CHALLENGE
As a parent, work with your child’s teacher and remember that both of you want what’s best for your child. Just like parents must be on the same page in rearing children, it’s equally important for parents and teachers to work together to foster a positive experience at school.

As a reminder, parish non-tithing fees will be billed in February. This $250 fee is billed to all families that have not met the minimum tithing amount ($250) to Sacred Heart or St. Josephs in Broussard for the calendar year 2024.

Dear Bluejay Family,
What a week of basketball for the Bluejays! This week saw our 8th grade boys and girls play their final home games, and they were honored along with their parents prior to their games on Wednesday and Thursday. It was a bittersweet farewell to the kids that we have seen grown up right before our eyes. We wish them good luck as they bring their Bluejay determination to high school. To conclude the week, our 8th grade boys were crowned champions of the 1st Annual WCA Charger Classic. They were able to avenge a loss to the Crusaders of St. Bernard during the week to capture the trophy. Our soccer teams were able to get on the field on Saturday to go 1 and 1 for the day with the ladies coming out victorious, while the boys came up short.
We will have a shortened week with the weather delay. The soccer postseason tournament will be moved to another week, and our basketball games for the week will be moved to Thursday. Brackets for the basketball postseason tournaments will be released on Monday.
