CSI Baseball 2026 Season Preview

The College of Staten Island baseball team is set to open its 2026 campaign on Feb. 16 at Staten Island University Hospital Community Park against Georgian Court. The Dolphins are coming off a program best season in 2025 where the team posted an 18-28 overall record, an improvement from recent seasons, and finished 11-9 in East Coast Conference (ECC) play, the best Division II conference record in since entering the league. That performance earned CSI its first-ever postseason berth and on top of that, CSI collected three major ECC awards last season, highlighted by a ECC Rookie of the Year and Coach of the Year notion. Jack Kehoe (ECC ROY) returns to the diamond this spring as the Dolphins look to build on last year’s momentum. Head coach Mike Mauro, the 2025 ECC Coach of the Year, returns for his 18th season leading the program and is supported by his coaching staff of James Mardikos, Thomas Laino, Shendi Ulaj, Saverio Nardone, and Tom Tierney.

Meet the Dolphins' Head Coach

Michael Mauro

Mike Mauro enters his 18th season as head coach. As the winningest coach in CSI Baseball History, he has amassed a coaching record of 328-290-1 and was named the ECC Coach of the Year in 2025. Since entering Division II, Mauro has led his team to a steady increase in wins starting with 7 in 2021 to their Division II best of 18 in 2025 where the baseball team made their first ever ECC postseason appearance.

“I want my players to get used to being in the playoffs. I don’t want last year to seem like a fluke or that we just got lucky. With that mindset, it’s going to take a lot of hard work and confidence to stay at the level our conference opponents are at. We have the talent, and we’ll go as far as our hard work will take us. I’m proud of this group, and as long as they stay focused, the sky’s the limit” - Head Coach Mike Mauro
