Students learn best when they create.
The current consensus is that knowledge workers won’t necessarily be replaced by AI Bots, but these workers will be replaced by those who understand how to use tools such as AI to create, produce, and shape ideas productively and ethically. Adobe’s thought leaders in education believe that student success today hinges on becoming critical, ethical, agile, life-long learners of emerging information technologies – and that the best way to do so across every discipline and career path is for students to have access to these tools to enable them to learn by application and creative problem solving – to learn by making and creating solutions to pressing problems.
Our speakers today respond to these wicked problems critically and constructively through the power of storytelling, particularly through the democratization of digital media channels. In fact, if I can think of a single practice in 2024 that is most likely to overcome the dangers of academic integrity and AI in HED, it would be what is known as "authentic assessment," which invites students to tell first-hand stories that integrate data, evidence, and information that directly applies and connects the subject matter of any course with the world around them and the future ahead of them in deeply engaging ways.
My name is Todd Taylor, and I am an Adobe Pedagogical Evangelist and an English Professor at UNC Chapel Hill, where I used to direct the first-year writing program. Our speakers today are the most forward-thinking, innovative folks I can think of to inspire us all to leverage the power of student storytelling to change the world.
