Week 3 Term 1a

In history this week we used drama for learning to discover what was happening at a place called Sutton Hoo.

We met Edith Pretty who told us about these strange mounds she had in her garden. We said we would investigate them and decided to dig carefully to see if there was anything inside them.

After a lot of digging we found some strange fragments of what we thought was a metal mask.

We then started to dig in the largest mound and couldn’t believe what we found… a nail. We realised it was a rivet and see hundreds of them in a strange shape. It was a boat!

We realised that it all the items we found were treasure from the Anglo Saxon times and before that they had collected. We continued to be archaeologists and think about what we had found.

In art we continued making our Anglo Saxon brooches.

We covered them with tin foil so they looked like metal and painted the fine details.

In PE we kept practising our rugby skills. Excellent work Year 5!

Well done to our Star of the week and golden book superstars! 💫
