This Weeks Sectional Schedule
Sectional attendance is mandatory and is graded weekly. Please make attendance a priority to ensure the success of the individual and group.
All-Region Jazz Concert
On Tuesday evening, students from our district (Frisco, Little Elm, McKinney and Prosper) competed against each other for a spot in the MS All-Region Jazz Band. I am happy to announce that Rogers own Kason Davis made 6th Chair Jazz Trombone in the band. This is a tremendous honor. Region Jazz students will participate in a clinic and concert on Saturday Jan. 18 at McKinney High School with at concert at 5:00pm.
Weekly Objectives for all students
All students in the Rogers Band Program are given weekly objectives which are listed on the back of their practice records. Different objectives may require different submissions. For example, some may be taken during sectionals, while others are chair tests in class or attendance to an event. All weekly objectives and submission details are notated on the back of each students practice record/objective sheet.
Attention 8th Graders
As you are starting to fill out your course selections for next year let us know if you have any questions. We know a lot of how the Walnut Grove schedules are put together and can answer a lot of your questions while you are working over picking classes these next few weeks. Please see the note below from Mr. Brumley, the director of bands at Walnut Grove High School.
Hello 8th Grade Band Students and Parents!
The Walnut Grove Band staff is incredibly excited about the opportunity to teach all of the outstanding students in our 8th grade class! The Walnut Grove Band is in a period of significant growth in both quality and quantity, and more importantly, is a positive, welcoming environment that has a place for everyone, no matter your experience level. In short, there is a place for YOU!
Attached to this email is a document containing our Spring and Summer Band dates. Please make plans to attend these events so you are completely ready for your freshman band experience. I’ll also be sending you a video next week that explains all of the events, as well as the full high school band experience in detail.
Additionally, we want to ensure that you each know which band class to select on your choice sheet in order to sign up for band. No matter what instrument you play, pick any “Symphonic Band” class and that will enroll you in the program. You’ll all do a short audition in April/May that will then tell us which band class is the perfect fit for you. Important- we strongly encourage you to “double block” band so that you are able to have your band class every day, making rapid progress easier to achieve. If you would like to double block, select the “Symphonic Band” class mentioned earlier, then also select any class that reads, “Applied Music,” or “Band and Applied Music.” If your schedule does not allow for you to double block, you may still absolutely participate in band and we will see if double blocking is possible later in high school.
Please feel free to reach out at any time with questions and we will be happy to help.
Sincerely,
Reagan Brumley- Director of Bands - rabrumley@prosper-isd.net - Walnut Grove High School
