NEWSLETTER: DEC 2023 BELGRAVE ST. BARTHOLOMEW'S ACADEMY

December has been an incredibly busy month...

BOOK FAIR

Our festive season started with the arrival of the Book Fair on Friday 1st December. It was lovely that so many of our children and their families visited the fair – we sold lots of books and made £850, which means we have £300 of free books for school!

We can’t wait to see the children devouring all the new books!

WREATH MAKING WORKSHOP

On 4th December and 6th December it was great to see so many parents at our Wreath Making Workshops. There were some really creative wreaths and we hope you enjoyed the session.

Massive thanks to Mrs Kelsall for all the planning and preparations to make the session so successful.

CROOKIE'S PATCH CHRISTMAS SALE

A massive festive thank you to everyone who came along to Belgrave’s Big Christmas Sale on the 15th December. All proceeds raised are greatly appreciated and will help towards the school allotment sites.

REINDEER REVELATIONS

On Tuesday 5th December, Santa’s Reindeer left the elves busy at work, and came to visit all of our children at Belgrave. The delight on the children’s faces was something to behold!

We wish Dasher, Prancer and the gang all the best for their busiest night of the year next week!

EARLY YEARS TRIPS

TERRIFIC TANGLEWOOD

Also on 4th and 6th December, our youngest children in Nursery had a fantastic time on their first school trip to Tanglewood at Cannock Chase. They decorated Christmas trees, searched for animal friends in the woods, built shelters and drank hot chocolate around the camp fire. They even had a special visit from Santa! Well done Nursery, we are all very proud of you!

DAY AT THE FARM

On Friday 8th December, our Reception children had a fantastic day at Amerton Farm. They saw Santa, the reindeer, had a tractor ride and saw the other animals. They also had lots of fun in the play barn.

PERFORMANCES

EARLY YEARS NATIVITY

Monday 11th December. We were absolutely blown away by the amazing performances from all our Early Years children in their nativity. Thank you to all our families and friends who came to watch and support the children – it was a huge turnout!

KEY STAGE 1 NATIVITY

Thursday 14th December. Our Key Stage One children were absolutely fabulous in their nativity, ‘Lights, Camel, Action 2’ – the Sequin. There were amazing performances from all and they even got a 10/10 from all those Strictly judges by the end of the show. Well done KS1!

Also on 14th December, our children in Years 5 and 6 went to The New Vic Theatre for a performance of A Christmas Carol, starring our very own Reverend Angela!!! The children loved seeing Reverend Angela performing and were fascinated to learn from the cast how the production was put together and how the props were made.

HE'S BEHIND YOU!

Thursday 7th December was a very busy day! Our children in the Early Years and Key Stage 1 enjoyed the visiting pantomime, while the children in Years 3 and 4 had a visit to the theatre to watch a fantastic performance of The Nutcracker. Safe to say all the children had a ball!

YEAR 4 CHOIR

On Friday 8th December, our Year 4 choir were busy again, visiting the University Hospital of North Staffs, bringing wonderful festive cheer to the staff and patients with their wonderful singing! One member of the public was moved to tears and commented “That’s beautiful – Just what Christmas is all about.” Well done everyone!

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!

J6 were lucky enough to be selected to appear in a festive musical performance featuring schools from across the St Bart's Multi-Academy Trust. Take a look at the finished video below...

'THE DAY I SAVED THE WORLD' WRITING COMPETITION

Well done to all of our KS2 children who entered the St Bart's Trust short story competition this term. Author Sian Hughes judged all entries from the 22 schools in the Trust and was very impressed with the standard of our entries.

Huge congratulations, however, goes to Mohammad-Ismaeel in J1 who was selected as a Runner Up in the competition. He wrote a fantastic short story about how we can make simple changes to our daily life to 'save the world'; finding creative ways to stop the effects of climate change on our planet. Well done!

PE AND SPORT

Children have been busy this term taking part in various sporting events and competitions. Over 80 of our children have taken part in events outside of school this term! Well done to each and every one of them as they have represented Belgrave brilliantly. We are incredibly proud of how they have been excellent role models and demonstrated our CCR values across the city.

AFTER SCHOOL CLUBS

New after school clubs will soon be available to book for Spring Term. Keep an eye out on Dojo for the bookings portal opening.

Exciting new clubs next term will include Laser Tag, New Age Curling (Watch this video to find out more ), Boccia, Choir, Samba and Musical Theatre. This is as well as some of the popular clubs from this term.

FAMILY LEARNING WINTER WORKSHOP

Thank you to all our parents who came along and got creative with their children at Mrs Jones’ Winter Workshop on Wednesday 13th December. Everyone enjoyed a cup of hot chocolate and marshmallows, whilst being very creative

CHRISTMAS SERVICES

CAROLS BY CANDLELIGHT

Thank you to all our families who came to Carols by Candlelight at St Bartholomew’s Church in Blurton. It was lovely to celebrate with you and we are sure you agree, that the children who took part did a fantastic job! They joined Mr Barlow in SLT this week for hot chocolate to say thank you for all their hard work!

SCHOOL CHRISTMAS SERVICE

Our Head Boy, Head Girl and Reverend Angela led our Christmas service in school and it was lovely to see so many parents joining us.

ATTENDANCE

I know many of you have been asking whether we are still rewarding the children with certificates each half term for their attendance. The answer is a definite yes! We have designed our own Belgrave certificates, which we know the children are going to love, but we are waiting for them to arrive. As soon as they do, any children who had 97% or above attendance for Autumn term 1 will receive their certificates. There will be a second certificate for Autumn term 2 and then a special certificate and treat for anyone who has achieved 97% or above for the whole Autumn term. These will be awarded in the New Year.

Thank you to all our families for your continuing support with attendance.

PRAYER CORNER

A prayer for us all:

Dear Lord,

May the warmth of this season fill our hearts with joy and hope.

May we remember the true meaning of Christmas, a time for love, peace, and goodwill.

And may the blessings of this season extend far beyond our school walls, touching the lives of all who need it most.

Amen
