Colmore Junior School Spring term week: 18

Highlights of the week

We began our week with a very important whole-school assembly focusing on loneliness. It was a valuable opportunity for the children to reflect on how we can look out for one another and ensure that everyone in our Colmore community feels included and valued. It has also been wonderful to see such a fantastic turnout for our Maths INSPIRE workshops this week. The children truly value the opportunity to share their learning with you, and we look forward to welcoming more of you to the upcoming sessions next week. We do understand that work commitments can sometimes make it difficult to attend these daytime events; please be assured that we appreciate your continued support with your child's learning at home, which is equally vital to their progress. On a practical note, could we kindly ask that children do not bring large bags or oversized rucksacks into school? Our cloakroom spaces are limited, and larger bags are currently causing significant congestion and trip hazards. A standard-sized book bag is much more manageable for the children to store safely.

Last Wednesday, the Y5 and 6 boys football team took part in the County round of the 2025-2026 West Midlands Primary Schools' Cup. The boys played amazingly throughout the whole tournament, narrowly missing out in the finals but coming a very respectable second place. What an amazing achievement to be the second best school team in the West Midlands.  Thank you Mr Smith for all your hard work coaching the team and all the parents who turned out to support. Well done boys. We are very proud of you!

6H carried out field of vision and eye-brain reaction time experiments in science using their maths skills to help with conversions and measuring.

Year 5 have been finding out all about the skeletal system. They found out that the skeleton has three main roles and they researched the largest and smallest bones of the human body. Don’t worry- they also cleaned the desks!

It has been fantastic to welcome so many parents to our Inspire Workshops this week. Years 4 and 6 have shared the way in which we teach maths and some top tips on how to support your child at home. Next week will be the turn of years 5 and 3.

Year 5 have been working on division with remainders this week. They have presented their work beautifully and used their multiplication tables to help them throughout.

6H have been working on their music again this week and have managed to create this fantastic composition. It was great to hear how well they have been able to follow the music 🎵

The newsletters are also accessible on the news section of our school website.
