UDIS NEWSLETTER ISSUE #15

Preschool/K1: SLC’s - Preschool learners had a fantastic time by showing their learning to the parents during our SLC. They were great communicators and showed full confidence when using the passports to showcase learning.
Y1: Effective societies - In Year 1 we have explored community systems that foster an effective society where people live together comfortably. Our students built a miniature community in our class and they conducted research and incorporated necessary systems to ensure this community functions smoothly. Currently, they are engaged in building their own community with a partner in the classroom, applying the knowledge they have gained about these systems.
Y3: Happy Songkran! -Year 3 had a busy term and we are all so proud to witness their progress. We held a very successful set of student-led conferences with our parents to show our learning to them. Ms Snook and I hope that everyone has a happy, healthy and well-earned holiday over Songkran!
Y5: Presenting our learning - Requirements: The learners in Year 5 enjoyed the student-led conference day. It was so affirming to witness the group's progress from the start of this year. They have all grown in knowledge and confidence. Miss Am and I hope you have a happy break. Sawadee Pee Mai.
MY: Dealing with stress - Continuing the PSPE theme of mental health literacy, Year 9/10 explored some techniques that are useful when dealing with stress, negative emotions and difficult times. The students had fun exploring different strategies through games and a brainstorming session where we talked about habits that will help keep them mentally healthy and mature.

Student success at UDIS (Y2) - Pyne!

Pyne has made great progress in his swimming. He has been a risk-taker, courageously facing his fears head-on. Through dedication and perseverance, Pyne balanced physical practice with mental resilience, reflecting on his progress and embracing new techniques. His journey is a powerful reminder of the transformative impact of the IB Learner Profiles, inspiring us to embrace challenges and pursue personal growth with determination.

Thai at UDIS: Learning about dance

TAL students from Year 2 have been learning about Thai dance in their latest unit. This has worked nicely in conjunction with our preparation for our Songkran event. We have also learned about different regions in Thailand and how the dance styles vary between them and understanding why that might be.

Our outdoor policy at UDIS - At UDIS we have an outdoor policy to govern outdoor activities and physical education. We have our own Airvisual Pro meter to monitor air quality and we use readings from that each day that affect our activities. We also monitor the heat index and when it is too high, kids are kept undercover and activities in physical education classes are restricted. We want to provide safe opportunities for our learners to engage safely with our outdoor environments.
