Parkside Primary News Week ending: Friday 7th November 2025

Schedule for next week

It's a busy week in school next week, so see below for a quick overview. (More details can be found in the body of the newsletter.)

  • Monday 10th - Odd Socks Day
  • Tuesday 11th - Remembrance Day
  • Wed 12th - Harvest Festival
  • Fri 14th - Children in Need

Anti-bullying Week

Next week is Anti-Bullying week across UK schools. This year’s theme, 'Power for Good', encourages pupils to recognise the power they each hold - to speak up, support one another and create positive change when they see bullying, whether online or in person. Activities will take place in class across the school.

We also invite all children to come to school on Monday 10th Nov wearing odd socks. Odd Socks Day marks the start of Anti-Bullying Week. It’s an opportunity to encourage people to express themselves and celebrate their individuality and what makes us all unique! There is no pressure to wear the latest fashion or to buy expensive costumes. All you have to do to take part is wear odd socks.

Children in Need

On Friday 14th November, children can come in non-uniform, Pudsey spots, pyjamas or a bright colourful outfit. There is no need to buy any special items or costumes. Voluntary donations for Children in Need can be made via this dedicated ParentPay link: https://app.parentpay.com/ParentPayShop/Foc/Default.aspx?shopid=20041 During the week leading up to Children In Need, children will be taking part in a range of activities such as Daily Maths Challenges, Strictly 25-step Dance Challenge and Activate Challenge with Joe Wicks. Details can all be found on the CIN website. On the Friday, School Council will be coming round to classes with a bear if children would like to enter the 'guess the bear' game. It is a 50p CASH donation to play. See poster attached for more details

Arriving at school - no need to queue

Please can we remind everyone that there is no need to queue outside school when arriving. The gates are open for 15 minutes from 8.40 to 8.55am which should allow everyone time to enter comfortably. You may arrive at any time between those times. Please do not arrive before 8.40am and form a queue.

We ask that older pupils who are not being accompanied by their parents do not come until 8.50am. This will ensure that gates are open and there will not be a queue. Pupils will be able to come straight into school safely.

Sporting News

The day we broke up for half term a group of Year 6 boys attended the Football Finals at Wolfreton High School. They showed fantastic sportsmanship and teamwork. We are very proud of them all.

This week, a group of KS2 children travelled to Cottingham High School to take part in the Cross Country Final. The children were a credit to the school, showing determination and resilience as they ran as fast as they could, also placing high in the rankings. Well done all! #ParksideProud

Parent Support Workshop

The Mental Health Support Team are coming in to school again on Wednesday 19th November at 9.15am to run a parent workshop about the importance of routines for children. If you would like to book a place, please do so at the following link: https://www.parkside.eriding.net/parent-workshop

Lest we forget

It is Remembrance Day on November 11th, a day to remember the sacrifice of those who have served in conflicts. We will be commemorating this important day in school in assemblies and during history lessons. Our Community Champions will also be going to the Cenotaph for the town's Remembrance Service alongside residents from Windsor Court Care Home. We still have poppies available at the office if you would like one with a donation to the Royal British Legion.

Parent Consultation Evenings & Survey

Thank you to everyone who has been able to attend the parent consultation evenings this week and before half term.

Just a reminder that you are invited to complete a parent survey. If you did not complete a paper version on the evening, you can complete one online at your convenience by clicking below.

Christmas Tickets

Dates of the Christmas performances and carol singing can be found in the calendar at the bottom of the newsletter. Further details including how to order tickets will be sent out next week.

Flu Vaccinations

Just a reminder that the Immunisation Team will be back in on Thursday 20th November to complete the flu vaccinations.

If you have not yet consented but would like your child to have it, please do so by following the information in this link.

Harvest Festival

Our Harvest Festival is on Wednesday 12th November this year. It is a time for the children to share their work with each other from their RE lessons and within the classroom about ‘Harvest’.

This year again we are collecting donations of food for Trinity Mission who run a food kitchen and support families in need with a food bank. They do accept fresh produce too, but their preference is for tins and packets.

If you would like to make a donation, please bring in food items before 12th November. All donations will be gratefully received and make a real difference to people in our local community.

Preloved

We will holding our next preloved stall on Monday 24th November after school in the West Hall studio. Come along and browse all of the uniform, PE kit, coats, other clothing, toys and books that have kindly been donated. All items are free!

We will also be having a stall at the PTA Christmas Fayre. More dates will be arranged for after the Christmas holidays - we will let you know when in future newsletters.

Christmas Jumpers

If you have any Christmas jumpers that your children have grown out of, we would be very grateful if you would be willing to donate them to be reused in school. Thank you.

Halloween Discos - Thank you!

A big thank you to the Friends of Parkside PTA for all of their hard work in putting on these fun events for the children. A huge thank you to all of the staff too who supported them and helped to make them a success. All money raised from ticket sales will benefit the children. Thank you for helping to make a difference in school.

Spotlight on Attendance 🔦

Please see below for the attendance figures for the last two weeks before half term. The overall school attendance was particularly disappointing in the last week before the break at just 92.3%.

Please can we remind everyone to think carefully about avoidable absences such as holidays. Please look at the guidance on the links below if you are unsure if your child is well enough to come to school. Remember, every day in school makes a difference to your child's learning.

Here are some reminder of how to support your child:

  • Do not take holidays in term time (see here for Penalty Notice information)
  • Make appointments outside of school hours
  • Use the "When is to ill to ill" guidance when considering keeping your child off school (click here to view)
  • Arrive on time each day. School gates open at 8.40 with registers closing at 8.55am
  • Reach out to school Via Mrs Daine or Mrs Greenley for support around school attendance including Emotional Based School Avoidance
Absence from school not only equates to lost learning but also missing out on other benefits to a child's wellbeing and wider development.

Safeguarding and Wellbeing support

If you have any Safeguarding concerns outside of school hours, or are concerned a child has suffered or is likely to suffer significant harm and is at immediate risk call the Children’s Safeguarding Hub on (01482) 395500 or ring 999 (asking for the Police).

The Best Start in Life

The Childcare Choices website is now the Best Start in Life parent hub. Take a look by clicking the link: www.beststartinlife.gov.uk

Lost property

This item of lost property has been in the office for a little while now and we are sure it must have a lot of sentimental value. Please call into the office if it belongs to you.

Online Safety Guide

This free online safety guide examines Pokémon TCG Pocket, the mobile version of the popular trading card game. While fun and educational, its addictive pack-opening and spending pressures can create risks for young players.
