How I Approach Weddings
At Daniel McClane Photography, I blend artistic portraiture with a contemporary documentary style, capturing the essence of your wedding day in a way that feels natural, timeless, and uniquely yours. From the perfectly composed moments to the beautifully unplanned ones, my goal is to create images that tell your story authentically.
My approach is unobtrusive when capturing candid moments, allowing real emotions to unfold organically. When it comes to couple portraits, I take a relaxed yet interactive approach—helping you feel at ease so your genuine connection shines through.
A wedding is more than just a series of photographs; it’s a collection of fleeting moments, meaningful glances, and quiet interactions. I strive to anticipate and preserve these details, ensuring that your wedding memories remain just as powerful and cherished decades from now. With a touch of editorial elegance and artistic vision, I craft images that stand the test of time.
Always Capturing the Moments that matter
From the second I arrive, my camera is in hand, ready to catch every moment—big or small, expected or completely unexpected. I focus on the emotional highlights, like a father’s first look at his daughter in her wedding dress, but I’m also on the lookout for the surprises—the spontaneous laughter, the happy tears, and yes, even your aunt pulling off the splits on the dance floor! Your wedding day is a story in motion, and I’m there to capture it all.
Natural & Relaxed Portraits
I believe the best wedding portraits come from simply letting couples be themselves. My goal is to create images that feel authentic—reflecting your personalities, your connection, and the beautiful surroundings of your day. Rather than stiff poses or forced instructions, I focus on natural movement and genuine moments.
I use available light to guide my portraits, and while I may suggest a scenic spot, the experience is always relaxed and effortless. It’s a chance to step away, take a quiet moment together, and soak in everything that just happened. To keep things easy and enjoyable, I break portrait sessions into two short windows—never more than 10-15 minutes—so you can get back to celebrating with your loved ones.
Capturing Every Detail
Your wedding is, first and foremost, about the people—and that’s where my focus will be 99% of the time. But I also know how much effort you’ve put into every little detail, and I’ll make sure those are beautifully documented too. From the dress and shoes to the carefully chosen table settings, I’ll capture the elements that make your day uniquely yours—without spending hours perfectly arranging them. And don’t worry, I won’t be placing your rings in the bouquet (unless that’s your thing!). My goal is to preserve your day as it truly unfolds, in a way that feels natural and meaningful.
The Dance Floor is Where the Magic Happens!
One thing’s for sure—I’m not the photographer who disappears five minutes after the first dance! I absolutely love the energy of the dance floor, and I’m right there capturing every epic move, wild moment, and uninhibited joy. Whether it's the couple’s romantic first dance or your guests letting loose, I’ll be in the mix, documenting it all. That’s why an hour of dance floor coverage comes as standard—because the party is just as much a part of your story!
Relaxed & Natural Family Photos
I approach weddings the way I’d want mine to be photographed—so while family photos are important, they won’t feel like a long, drawn-out assembly line. If you're after 20 different configurations of formal posed shots, I might not be the photographer for you. But if you want a few quick, meaningful photos with your parents, grandparents, siblings, and bridal party, we’re on the same page!
I keep family portraits relaxed and natural—no stiff posing or perfectly measured lineups. If you want to put your hands in your pockets or keep hold of that glass of champagne, go for it! As long as everyone you want in the shot is there and looking in my direction, we’ll get it done quickly and painlessly—so you can get back to celebrating.
Am I the Right Photographer for You?
My approach to wedding photography is all about storytelling—capturing your day as it naturally unfolds so that when you look back in one, five, or even twenty years, it feels like you’re right there again. I focus on creating honest, genuine images rather than staged or overly stylized shots.
If you’re after an Instagram-perfect, heavily posed wedding photographer, that’s just not me. I won’t spend hours orchestrating poses—instead, I’ll document you being you, with beautiful light and a stunning backdrop to complement the moment.
What excites me most is the unpredictability of the day—being surrounded by incredible people, witnessing real emotions, and capturing those fleeting, unscripted moments. And at the end of it all, I get to hand over a collection of images that truly tell the story of your day. Honestly, it doesn’t get much better than that!

FAQ's
How many pictures will you take/provide us with?
There’s no set limit on the number of photos I take—I’ll be capturing moments from start to finish, as many as I can throughout the day. The final number of images delivered varies depending on factors like the length of the day, wedding size, location, and even the weather. That said, for a full day’s coverage, you can expect a minimum of 600 fully edited images, ensuring a rich and complete story of your wedding day.
When do you start and finish?
Unlike most photographers, my package isn’t based on a set number of hours. I start when you need me—usually about two hours before the ceremony—and I include one hour of dance floor coverage (so I’ll be there well after the first dance!). If you'd like extra time on the dance floor, , just let me know and I’ll provide a tailored quote for you.
