Project Description:
In 2024, Plymouth High School’s swim and dive teams hosted their first home meet in over 20 years. One of the few Michigan High School Athletic Association Division I schools without its own pool, Plymouth athletes traveled to neighboring Canton or Salem for practices and competitions in facilities where the home teams received priority scheduling. The new 35,000-square-foot Plymouth High School Natatorium addition provides a dedicated training and competition venue, expanding aquatics opportunities not only for Plymouth athletes but for the surrounding community, as well. Strategically sited adjacent to existing athletics facilities, the addition creates a clear and welcoming arrival. A canopied entrance establishes a secure single point of entry, guiding visitors into a dramatic, light-filled two-story atrium that unites the school’s former exterior with the new natatorium. This central gathering space improves event monitoring and control while providing room for check-in, circulation, concessions, and community gathering during meets and events. The 35,000-square-foot addition houses a naturally daylit natatorium featuring an eight-lane, 25-yard competition pool that meets competition and tournament requirements and opens new revenue opportunities. The L-shaped configuration separates an integrated diving well from the lap lanes, allowing simultaneous activities. Stadium seating for 420 spectators enhances the competition experience while efficiently utilizing space below for locker rooms, offices, equipment storage, mechanical rooms and restrooms.
